brought down my clock to 460Mhz, i don't feel any stutter on apps. however i feel they open from cold start a bit longer than the stock 1Ghz, which is expected.

speaking of which... is there a app or tool out there that let you selectively turn off the cell radio only? the airplane mode kills all my radios including wifi, then i have to turn it back on... my use pattern is wifi always on, but i only need cell when i dont have wifi

Is there a app that can manage screen brightness?
I mean automatically during the day increase brightness and reduce it during the night

Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App

Great guide! I would just add two points:

- Use 2G only: 3G networks uses a lot more power than plain old 2G. Unless you need network bandwidth, keep 3G off. For voice, there´s no difference in quality, so 2G is fine. I can easily double my battery life just doing this. For those using CM, it´s easy to add a 2G/3G toggle in the power notifications bar.

- Turn radio off in bad signal places: if you go into a building (or anywhere else) with weak or absent signal, simply turn off your radio, if possible. The phone will try to to compensate bad signal situations by boosting it´s own signal, using more power. Or worse: if it looses signal completely, it will keep trying to attach to a network, but will keep failing on this, wasting even more power.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've noticed that (at least on CDMA networks), that 1x data speed uses lower power, but it takes longer to transmit a certain amount of data, so it ends up using more power to get the same megabyte transmitted. I've also read that it's the same with 2G vs 3G data. 3G just transmits it faster, then goes into low-power idle quicker.

using 2G(GPRS/EDGE) saves battery when you use it for like, transferring small packets of data and syncing things like news feed. For browsing and market obviously 3G is better choice but if you are doing a small google search EDGE is better as GPRS(if your location does not have EDGE) is too slow, and only fit for syncing and loading a dictionary app or XDA mobile app.

This is confusing.

I read somewhere that Overclocking actually increases battery life, since a task will perform faster due to higher rate of cycles.

But the OP states otherwise! :(

OP is right. But you can compesate battery usage by undervolting. AFAIK franco uses lower voltage in his kernel.

EDIT: I was wrong, he has overclocked FSB/BUS, so no undervolting. Guess it's not possible to undervolt our phone.

I really don't understand why my phone's battery usually won't last longer than 12h. I've been using CM7.1 (mik's 6.5.8) for a month now.

I try and follow most of the tips listed. I leave 3G on because I use whatsapp quite often (turning it off overnight), but I wouldn't believe it drains that much battery. I've tried uninstalling other apps that run in background (twitter, facebook) and freezing some others that startup randomly (maps, dropbox). Background data, auto sync, GPS, bluetooth and etc are always disabled. I hardly ever play games. Also changed network to 2G only. Nothing seems to improve battery life.

In BetterBatteryStats, it says the phone was awake for 3h, even though the screen was on for only half an hour... There's also a significant wakelock (around 3h too) called GpsLocationProvider, even though I always keep GPS off. I attached some screenshots hoping someone can figure it out.

What should I do? I really want to be able to go through a full day at least without having to charge the phone.

Thanks for the tip but I do heavy texting and calling. I sometimes use the wifi and every now and then the GPS and camera. I don't play games and the battery will last me for 2 days at most.
