This fix at the very least works on the MIUI ROM. It may work on all ROMs, if someone starts getting this error, try this fix and report back :). Also reported to work on CM6

Wipe data for Contacts Storage and Google Services Framework.

Really easy, this will fix either android.process.acore force closing or google.services.framework force closing.

WARNING!: This will wipe contacts. It seems acore fc's when there are corrupted contacts. Usually by restoring contacts on an incompatible ROM....
And will temporarily wipe market list. So backup your contacts!

Step by step:
0. Make sure Sync is off, leave it off for some time!
1. Go into settings
2. Select Applications
3. Select Manage Applications
4. (If you are on 2.2) Select the All tab
5. Scroll down until you find Contacts Storage (select it).
6. Wipe data+clear cache(If available)
7. Hit back
8. Scroll down until you find Google Services Framework (select it)
9. Wipe data+clear cache (if available)
10. Reboot and enjoy
11. (optional) Enable Sync again
Enable sync again when your convinced that the error has gone.

If this works for you, can you reply stating what ROM your on? (Eg, Stock 2.2, Cyanogenmod 5.08, MIUI 0.9.24, etc)
Or if it doesn't work for you, do the same thing? :)
Thanks guys!

If you don't want to wipe all contacts:

So far most users are able to fix the error using the above steps, except Droid Incredible's seemingly...

Thanks to this user here Bear55 for a more detailed explanation:

Because of you my phone now works. I even registered just to say thank you!!! I'd been using 3'rd party apps to fulfill the built-in contact-app's requirements. Nothing ever did the job right. Phonebook 2.0 was the best of the best and it's a hideous and chunky space eating app.

Thank you so much again, I endured 3 months of the FC and it was fixed in 5 mins thanks to you!!! I'm SO grateful!

damnit...

Didn't last for too long. The issue is back...

I really don't know what to do anymore...

---------- Post added at 08:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:16 PM ----------

Is there not a script or app that can find the corrupted DB entries and just delete them?

Problem solved

Hi guys,

First of all, thank you all your help. I also had the problem about Google Framework FC's. I tried the fix (now on first post) and it worked... but just for a couple of days...

I searched on Google and other forums for a fix. Found out that it could be not only a corrupted contact, but also any other entry (like a calendar event, or an e-mail from Gmail app).

Finally I was able to solve the problem. It appears that this problem could be caused by lack of free space in the app data partition. I don't really know how it is splitted, but after unninstalled a few apps, my problem was gone. I started with big apps, like games, that usually download more data (besides the apk from Market).

The fix about deleting data of Contact Storage only worked the first time. Unninstalling the apps finally solved the problem!

Anyway, thank you for all the support given!

Cheers,
DC

Welcome to the scene :)

Like i said in the first post, your local contacts will be deleted (but not your Google contacts), and thats all :)

If the problem persists, remember what i said on the first post....
NOTE:
It can be caused by corrupted database entires in ANY of the syncs, Gmail, Calender, etc, but I've found contacts are the most likely culprits. This is a band-aid solution, if the problem is reappearing than there is probably something wrong with the source data being synced. Or an external application trying to do modifications (eg, a custom contacts application).

It may require further investigation on your behalf. Maybe deleting several applications, or double checking your google account data, if you find some strange entry (eg, odd charecters, or no name, etc), try deleting that. You can also try the process for Calender/Gmail/Books/Picasa/Etc,etc

Sorry I just looked at the other posts and u have said that like 1000 times. Still 3 question when I turn on my sync again do I need to do anything special when I do this. When I turn iron will it delete my contacts? And if you have time, can u explain exactly why this happens? I am also getting an error force close android.media???

Thanks a lot

Ok I tried to clear data from the apps that are mentioned, but it doesn't clear it. The button is not grayed out. It seems to work, but it simply doesn't clear data.

Is there another way I could try to clear data? Because this way is not working for me.

Thank you very much.

I did this to fix the acore issue on my Dinc. I am using MIUI version 2.1.13. Thanks a bunch. I will update if the problem resurfaces and will also continue to mess with it. I also have my FB contacts synced so I will stop syncing those contacts and see if that helps if it happens again.

Hi!
Thanks to all for the tips.

I have had my Linovo A1 for 10 hours and am a real noob at it. I followed the instructions posted above, 3 times, even cleared many other caches, but the problem persists.

I really don't know where to begin to debug this, but I'm open to all suggestions - I am a pro programmer after all...

Ciao,
Bob

force close issues

wiped contact storage and google framework data and cleared cache, still had force close issues after rebooting. went back into applications and went through everything that could have possibly been an issue (messaging, email, dialer, google contacts, market etc) and deleted all the data and cache. rebooted. works great now, no problems at all. thanks. just had to type in all my contacts from scratch, i'm afraid to sync because it's running so good.

Thanks!

I just wanted to say thanks as i have always had this problem with android when i restore my sms index. it's large and causes acore to get stopped by the system.

I'm running GB 2.3.9 on P990 (LG 2X)

I restored over 11k texts from xml.

I was previously on stock GB.

I use:

SMS backup to restore SMS
CWM to restore user apps
appmonster to restore market links
mybackuppro to restore other data

My have the same problem, but can't get rid of it. I can not getting the phone yet. It goes thru the boot process then the android comes up and you're suppose to touch to go into the phone to setup. This is where the google services framework stops. And I can't get pass that. Any idea how I can get pass that???

From the sounds of it you have a corrupted cache.

Go back into recovery and clear BOTH cache and Dalvik Cache (in CWM its under Advanced). And if you don't have anything on the phone itself, wipe Data as well.

If you do not have a custom ROM then just Factory Reset... Sorry bro not much else can be done!

The thing is, I can't get into CWM. When I do the hold vol up+down and power, I get into CWM. But it is not the same CWM. Well, it is the same but each lines are double spaced. And I can't move the cursor to select. If I can get into CWM, then I can try wiping those things.

Any things I can do? Any idea how I can get into CWM? Is my phone dead? Is there any rom I can flash with ODIN to clear this problem?

Just want to say that I got this FIX!!! MAN I thought I was SOL!

Anyway, I resintall kies and the drivers. From odin 1.85 I install recovery-cmw-hercules.tar. Then reboot and did the vol+/- and power and recovery screen came up properly. From within recovery, I ran the darkside superwipe script to clean everything. Then install the the jugernaut 5.0 rom. Boot, wait, and enjoy!

I think it may have been the new recovery-cmw-hercules.tar file that saved me. The others I had may have been corrupted, cuz it didn't work right.

I continue to receive the following error message: "The application Settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

The phone was running CM7 then I handed it down to my son and I think he tried to flash an ICS or Honeycomb ROM to it and that's when things went haywire. I've now tried to revert back to stock ROM and continue to get the force close. I've attempted to perform the OPs suggestions however when I select "Accounts" from settings to disable sync the Force Close error occurs. The phone however does not have a data signal nor a wifi signal and has a factory data reset applied. I am able to delete the calendar and contacts storage but I do not see "Google Services Framework" to select and erase. Any assistance is appreciated. This error continues to happen even after a fresh ROM install and GAPPS load.

If you don't want to wipe all contacts:
It happened on my galaxy s too, when I viewed my contacts I got force close.
But after I tried many contacts backup tool on the market, I found that my contacts had 1 contact with no first name and no last name on it.
So I use contact removal from the market to remove that contact.
After that I got no force close again.
And my contact do not need to be wiped clean before.
Maybe this can resolved the contact error for some.
At least this worked on my galaxy s. :)

This solution will work in some cases but not for others. Read this guide for why the problem is happening and how to fix it: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google Mobile/thread?tid=23c329285968cd2e&hl=en

It is most likely a corrupted record on one of the services that you are syncing.

    Good luck!

Gonna be a noob and ask how to do this because honestly i'm a bit lost on that part.

Ill elaborate a little more on on the main post as well.

    1. Go into settings
    2. Select Applications
    3. Select Manage Applications
    4. (If you are on 2.2) Select the All tab

    8. Scroll down until you find Google Services Framework (select it)
    9. Wipe data+clear cache (if available)
    10. Enjoy

I have a FlyTouch3 SuperPad2 Android 2.2 tablet, Model number disco, Kernel version 2.6.32.9, Build number FRF85B... Got the "android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly" force close error for the second time yesterday morning.

First time I looked and looked for help on the issue, nothing but a hard factory reset worked (pushing power, menu, and back at the same time after having turned it off). This worked, but also caused me to have to reload every app I'd liked, which took hours to recover. Not a great solution, but better than a blinking brick. :(

This time I did more research... discovering that some task killers are part of the problem (a lightbulb went on since I had just accidentally allowed Memory Booster to kill off Goggle Services Framework right before receiving my error--why would it even list that as a process to kill if this would cause problems?!). This time I did a search on how to restore the Google Services Framework and by luck, the link to your solution came up.

I only did steps 1-6, but it worked! Here's the odd thing: I barely use gmail, only set it up for use with a couple of subscription sites. Have no incomplete contacts or anything, but clearing the contacts cache fixed the problem! You should get major kudos, because this is a prominent problem not just on Android phones, but tablets as well, and the fix was VERY difficult to find.

Might I also suggest to anyone reading this that Advanced Task Killer works great--it will show other processes running, such as antivirus, but doesn't check their boxes by default as it recognizes crucial apps that should be left running. I uninstalled Memory Booster so that I won't stop that process by accident, and voila! Problem solved.

    Thanks again!
