No idea what your doing wrong, but try flashing a kernel, preferably the stock one http://dinc.does-it.net/Kernels/Stock_GB_2.6.35.13.zip. Or try reflashing your current rom without wiping anything. You should always back up before flashing any mod. :p Good luck.
I did the reflash wipe after trying a kernel and it worked. (the kernel did not) i've no idea what i did wrong, but that was a big scare i never want to deal with again.

sadly, this was the last straw that killed the dinc for me. Every one of the space issue fixes had it's own set of drawbacks. The big one being slowness. :(

It's possible to make a data increasing mod that doesn't do any ext4 conversions. If anyone is really interested I'll build one for the stock ROM and cm7. cm10 uses ext4 anyway.

Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app

hello! question, I just got a Droid Incredible from a friend who didn't want it anymore!

anyways, it's factory reset.

how do I root this phone? Since I can't set the settings to USB debugging mode on.

I want to root this phone, use the EXT4all mod and put games on it for my kids, use it as a spare and nostalgia.

I don't want to activate it, do i? i can't get to any settings without going through the activation screen.

what should i do?

Thanks!

There's several threads in General about unlocking and rooting this phone. If you have problems with a particular guide, post in its thread.

IIRC, the "four corner" trick works on the stock ROM. Basically you just tap on the four corners of the screen in clockwise order to bypass activation. I can't remember which corner you start on, so I always end up going around at least 5 corners before it takes.

hey, sorry about that, thanks for the help.

question about this method,

I had used this thread to root my incredible back in march. I have heard that there has been an update since then... did it break this method?

also, fwiw, thank you for the tip. i ended up hitting "end" during the activation call 2 or 3 times and it let me bypass it.

Yes the update broke previous methods. However htc now allows you to unlock your bootloader and flash a custom recovery, letting you root, downgrade, and get s-off.

Use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600904 or this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506258. Both achieve the same thing, just written differently.

thanks for the info. i started looking at the your new thread, I just am trying to figure what to do on my Mac, when I see the adb.exe part, i can't use that part, right? i have to do the mac counterpart... or something like that?

question also, this incredible that I have now seems to not have been turned on in a while... when did the OTA come out? How do i check to see if the OTA is out for this? maybe it never got the OTA cuz it was off, and i can use this method to root still?

---------- Post added at 05:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:20 AM ----------

in fact, when i just connected it to WIFI, it asked me to install an update! good news, right? maybe i can still use this method and freeze the OTA? how can i check a version number to be sure...

OH!

i have this on the phone.
software number
4.08.605.2

baseband version
2.15.10.07.07

build number
4.08.605.2 CL 185897 release-keys

and it keeps asking me to update to this one...

4.08.605.15

http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-droid-incredible-verizon/software-updates

I believe that is the update that breaks this method, right?

So i can probably still use this and root, and use titanium backup to freeze the ota from happening, right?

The exploits became obsolete with thr first release of GB 4.06.605.3. Not to mention it is easier to just unlock your bootloader and flash cwm amd su, then yoir rooted.

yeah, i want to root s-off and all that, i am just having problems finding a MAC version. i understand what's happening, i think, while reading the directions, but am not sure what to do whenever i get to the adb part (adb.exe?)

maybe i'm not just seeing them, but nothing comes up when i search for mac, or else when i find something, the directions are outdated or obsolete.

can i still use unrevoked 3.22 for the baseband i have, though? i can't get to a windows computer (yet) and i can't figure the mac way.

Lopping on white HTC splash screen

I completed step 8 including the optional backup and my phone is looping on the white HTC splash screen. I have searched for resolutions even see that there is a post here where someone else had the issue. I cannot break in to attempt any of the fixes that I hace located. Pressing and holding volume down and power has no effect. What am I missing? Can some one help please?

Pull the battery, reinsert and then hold vol down and power. Hboot should pop up. From there you can flash an ruu, or access recovery and do a restore or flash a new rom.

Pulled the battery and SD card and it worked, completed fix and it also worked, just finished and texts and mail is coming through. Did not realize all that had stopped working due to this.

Thank you!

Actually I'm not! All I needed was a battery pull

Weirdness

So this worked great.. went through all of the steps, checked and said I had 748 mb total space.. except I only had 50 mb available and had a low space error! Any ideas?

Either you have a ton of apps installed, or somehow during the conversion process files got coppied twice, or not wiped or something. Or your /data partition was already full with something before /datadata got moved on to it. I know it sucks, but i would wipe data and start fresh installing apps.
