Either you have a ton of apps installed, or somehow during the conversion process files got coppied twice, or not wiped or something. Or your /data partition was already full with something before /datadata got moved on to it. I know it sucks, but i would wipe data and start fresh installing apps.
Yep.. that fixed it.. and still rooted and plenty of space to avoid the low space errors.. thanks!

Bricked phone at last step!

Hi,

First off, thanks for this guide. Until the very last step, it seemed to be working just great. I got this far:

Scroll down to "Yes - Install Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip" and click it. This step will take some time to complete, and the progress bar may not move at all. Be patient!
Once it is done, click the power button at the top of your phone until you're back at the main menu, then select "Reboot system" (the first option). If you hit power too many times and end up with a blank screen, just hit power one more time and you'll see the menu.
I rebooted, and it booted into the HBOOT menu. I powered off, powered on, and could only get the HBOOT menu. I've removed the battery, tried again, no joy.

I went into Recovery to see if there was anything I could do there, but the 'select' button doesn't work at all anymore - it just hangs on the Clockwork hat icon if I press the power button and doesn't select the menu option. I don't quite know what to do at this point - is there some way of modifying the SD card if I put it directly in my laptop that'll help? Or some other way to fix this? I'd be really grateful for any help, as my phone is now completely unusable. Stupidly, I did not make a recovery thing.

Phone is: HTC Wildfire S, version is 2.3.5.

Thank you in advance.

Sounds like something went wrong and there is no boot image. If on a custom rom flash it again. If that dosent work try an ruu. This is the incredible forums and i dont have a wildfire, so i cant provide any files or much specific help. Try reflashing recovery, doing a wipe, and then reflash your rom.

Thanks for your response. However, I have no idea what any of that means. Any reading material you can recommend?

try to boot into recovery but instead of recovery use fastboot and go to the Platform Tools folder with Fastboot in it and download a new recovery and rename it recovery.img .. open command window there and type with the phone pluged in fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

What is your phones current status?
Hboot version (locked/unlocked)?
Radio (baseband) version?
Android version?
Rooted?
S-on or s-off?
Let me just type out the top part of the screen

*** UNLOCKED ***
MARVEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.09.0099
MICROP-0451
RADIO-7.57.3910M

Yes, it is rooted. By Android version, is 2.3.5 what you mean?

Also, because Unrevoked doesn't work with Marvel, I used Clockwork 5.0.2.8. Maybe that was the bad thing I did?

The buttons in Recovery seem to work fine now - no idea what I did. Still no idea how to get it back to booting into anything other than HBOOT and Recovery, though.

You will need to find an ruu for your phone and flash it thru hboot. Or go into recovery, wipe everything in the mounts and storage menu except emmc and sdcard, and then flash a rom of your choice.

Thanks very to everyone who responded. I now have my phone back!

Everything listed in the OP worked, apart from having to use a different recovery thing, and the final step. Can anyone suggest how to find the correct fix for my phone (Wildfire S)? I've tried googling, but can't find anything useful. But that might be because I'm not all that familiar with messing around in the guts of my Android.

Did this ever happen? Could it?
No i dont think so. & Yes it could be done with a little work. But why, whats wrong with ext4? Ext4 is faster than stock ext3.

EDIT: I edited the ext4 no data limit mod to not convert to ext4 and instead just move /datadata to /data/data. It has been tested and does work, but still FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK! And always do a backup first. :)

I think (if I read correctly) that the original download will change the kernal on the stock GB rom. My phone has never responded well to a different kernal. Over time I get random reboots.

cmlusco does the download you just provided change anything other than the size of data/data?

It may. I was always under the impression that the mod always flashed the gingertimy kernel, but somewhere i remember tiny saying it only does in certain situations. However i cant remember what those situations are exactly. But you can always flash the mod and if it does install the gingertiny kernel, just flash back to the stock kernel afterwards. I believe the only reason the kernel is needed for the mod is for ext4. Since the new mod dosent convert to ext4, it is safe to flash any kernel you want after flashing the mod. Hope that helps, mabey tiny will see this and chime in.

Yeah, you can use stock kernel if you don't use ext4. But it saddens me that someone is still having issues with my kernel :(. It only changes the kernel on sense ROMs so you'd need to flash stock or remove the kernel changing part and force it to keep the same kernel.

I would remove the kernel changing part, but im not exactly sure what needs to be removed and what dosent. I think you would just remove the #determine part, and the (sense) and (asop) parts?

First of all.. Thank You OP. Finally got rig of the Low space error.

However, I am missing several apps. I tried the following

1. Disconnect and reconnect battery
2. Unmount and mount SD card
3. move files from .android folder on SD card to internal memory

Nothing seemed to restore my missing apps. When I do a search on astro, I find files related to the missing apps.
I am not able to reinstall these files either from the play store or .apk files

Since this fix, I am not able to update any apps either. I get an error saying " Invalid package".

I have spent the last 2 weeks looking on several forums for a fix. No luck so far :(

Hope one of you guys can help.

Go to recovery - mounts and storage and format /data, and /datadata. That will solve your issue, but also you will loose all your apps and settings.
