I'm a noob and had the same problem...and now a new one!

Started with a Droid Incredible on Page Plus running froyo's Skyraider 4.2 (and blocked any OTA updates). Was experiencing the "low on space" problem and flashed the fix. Then I had the problems as described on page 3 of this thread (wifi connected but no internet access, B&W camera, etc), so I flashed the latest Gingertiny kernel, and realized it wasn't GB, so I flashed the Touch of Blue 2.2 ROM. Finally got it starting, but now there is no Google Play app. The "Market" app only opens the internet browser to the Google play terms. Without Google Play app, I've been unable to download Titanium Backup (restore apps/data) and Lookout Mobile Security (restore contacts, etc).

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: 2.15.00.07.28
Kernel version: 2.6.35.14-gingertiny-v2
Build number: 4.08.605.15 CL389630 release-keys
Software number: 4.08.605.15 710RD
Browser version: WebKit/533.1
PRI Version: 1.28_002
PRL Version: 52775
ERI Version: 5
Reboot and wait a few minutes, it should update to the play store.

Unfortunately that didn't fix it... I've already waited overnight. :(

When I click the "market" app, it does open(?) for a split second before closing and reopening itself as an internet browser. But thanks and Happy Holidays!

<UPDATE> OK! So in that split second that it comes up when I open "market" after resetting, I clicked on "accept" and finally got Android Market / Google Play open! It has FINALLY updated itself to the Google Play app. Hopefully I can restore everything now; thanks again cmlusco!

Installing Verizon Update 4.08.605.15 after "Low on space" fix

I applied the fix outlined here and it worked great. I too am new to rooting, but the procedure posted by soniclude, along with the included references were easy to follow and to the point.

My question now concerns the constant nagging to install the 4.08.605.15 update. From what I've read it's not going to do me a lot of good anyway, but I also am unsure of the impact now that I'm rooted and applied the "Low on space" fix. I have been answering "Install Later" every time the nag pops up (getting VERY old!).

Should I tell it to go ahead and install? If not, how can I get rid of the nag?

Thanks.....

If your rooted the update will not work even if you press ok, as it requires the stock recovery and all stock apps and system files. You either need to install a rom based on 4.08.605.15, or edit your roms build.prop file to make it think it is on 4.08.605.15. To edit go to /system and mount it r/w and then open build.prop for editing. Look for a line that starts with:
Code:
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon_wwe/i...
Change the whole line to read this:
Code:
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon_wwe/inc/inc:2.3.4/GRJ22/389630.15:user/release-keys
Then save the file, reboot to recovery and clear cache and dalvik-cache, and then boot up and the nag should stop.

Unrevoked 3 has become troublesome for many people. As a result it is now prefered to htcdev unlock your bootloader and fastboot flash cwm recovery, then flash misc partition and downgrade to froyo. Once on froyo flash unrevoked forever patch thru recovery to get s-off. Once s-off procede with flashing the ext4 low space mod.

If you want to stop the backup popup, uninstall htc sync from your pc, and remove cdrom.iso from /system/etc on the phone once s-off.
I've done all these on my Dinc and fixed the low space problem. But now I am in stock froyo. Could I get back to stock gingerbread rom, like this one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737398)? Will the low space problem come again if use this stock? Thank you.

How do I know the memory increase worked?

I followed all the steps and everything seemed to work. However, under Menu-Settings-SD & phone storage my phone has no "Application data storage" area? Only has "SD card", "Internal storage", and "Phone memory".

any advice would be appreciated.

Not sure why its not there, it should be. Well if phone memory says 748mb available then the mod worked. If it says anything else, it did not. Essentialy the mod combined the phone memory and application data storage, they would both show the exact same thing.

Thanks for the info and thanks to the OP for providing the guide. I don't remember what the SD & phone storage page said before I applied the mod, but I have a feeling it already said 748 mb. I sure don't remember it saying 150 mb.

Actually your right, i dont know what i was thinking. Probably the easiest way to make sure it worked is to use the terminal command in the op, or use a file explorer to go to data/data and see how much total space it reports. It should be the same as /data. Basicly /data/data use to be on its own 150mb partition, the mod instead makes /data/data a folder on the /data partition. So your right it always said 750mb.

I apologize for my ignorance, but I don't know how to use the terminal command. When I plug the phone into my PC and try to use a file explorer to look for a /data/data folder I'm not seeing it. Am I looking on the phone or the SD card?

Thanks again for any info!

To use the terminal command you need to download a terminal emulator app from the market. Then open the app and type in the command: "su" without quotes and hit enter, then "mount | grep /data" withoit quotes and hit enter. If it worked there should be a line containing /data and ext4. If it says ext3 the mod did not work.

You will not be able to use a pc to browse anything on your phone except emmc and the sdcard. You need a file explorer app such as astro file manager or root explorer.

I installed Terminal Emulator and tried this command:

$ su
# mount | grep /data

It said:

"grep not found"

I also installed Astro File Manager but I can't find /data/data. What is the path? /mnt/emmc/Android/data or /mnt/sdcard/Android/data?

Do you have busybox installed? Not sure if grep is a native command or part of busybox.

The path is /data/data, you may need to go into astros settings and enable root mode.

mount | grep /data will work. If not, put busybox in front of grep. You are right sir about grep being in busybox.

[*]Launch ROM Manager from your app drawer and click "Reboot into Recovery" (the second option). Click "OK" to proceed.
[*]After the phone reboots, you will now see a black screen with some blue options on it. Use the volume buttons on the left to scroll down to "install zip from sdcard" and click the optical trackpad button at the bottom of the phone to select it.
[*]Click "choose zip from sdcard" (the first option)
[*]Scroll down to the very bottom and select "Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip"
[*]Scroll down to "Yes - Install Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip" and click it. This step will take some time to complete, and the progress bar may not move at all. Be patient!
[*]Once it is done, click the power button at the top of your phone until you're back at the main menu, then select "Reboot system" (the first option). If you hit power too many times and end up with a blank screen, just hit power one more time and you'll see the menu.
[/LIST]

did all this selected Convert2ext4... keeps saying 'file not found'..please help!

So in recovery it lets you select the file, but then says it cant find it? If it cant find it, how was it there to select? Just trying to understand.
