Hey,
Will this work for a HTC Wildfire S too?
I have searched in the HTC Wildfire S section but couldn't find a thread like this.
Not without modifying it first. It flashes the gingertiny inc kernel, which would not work on your phone. Your phone also probably dosent have the same partitions as the incredible. So without modifing the script with the correct partitions, and swapping out a kernel ment for your phone that supports ext4, the answer is no.

Lots of space -- still get low space icon.

Thanks for this post, btw!

However, I'm still having the issue after the format. I have 312 mb free and still get the low space.
(See attached image)
Also, whenever I run Facebook, it pops up saying "This device is low on freek disk space..." and that it may be unstable, blah blah.

I'm running IceCream Senseless ?.?.? (1.1.1 or maybe 1.0,I'm not really sure now). I'm pretty sure when I installed the rom that it made the 750mb partition. I don't remember installing any other mods other than adrenaline.
  • Side story: I thought I had ICSenseless 1.0 -- so I tried to update to 1.1.1. Cleared Dalvik, and cache, ran rom. After boot at the home screen a message popped up that said the UID inconsistent, and the "I'm feeling lucky" button (which was a nice addition.) Then I looked up that error on xda -- but decided to just go back to my backup before I installed 1.1.1. I Noted that even in 1.1.1 the low space icon was still there....
Anyway...
Root, yes; s-off, yes.
Did a nandroid backup, then cleared dalvik and cache partitions to see if that would help at all -- no, not really.
I don't think I have EXT4 installed. I ran a query in the console and it didn't come back with anything.

Please let me know if you have any ideas, or if I should post this in IceCream Senseless' thread, or if I should just make a new thread.
Cheers :D

I am not new to Android but I am new to this device. A friend asked me to fix her "Low Memory" problem. Is there a way of fixing it without rooting the phone?

I can and have rooted other phones. She is just not as tech savvy as some and might not understand what I have done.

There is no way to use this mod without rooting. The only other option would be apps from the market that move your apps to the sdcard. This can slow the apps/phone down however. Your best bet is to root, even if she dosent understand it.

Phone will not turn on

Everything went well but once I completed the instructions and my phone rebooted it gets stuck on the htc start screen. You can't turn it off and can not boot in the HBOOT mode -help!!
Thanks

Have you tried reflashing recovery? Either thru hboot if your s-off or with fastboot if your unlocked.
Thanks for your suggestions: I tried to reflash using this guide here at theunlockr.com (cant post link)

When the command line tries to connect to the phone it seems to fail. I tried leaving it on the HBOOT and fastboot menus...

I've got both my parents on Rooted, S-Off DIncs on PagePlus and they are both having the Low Memory Errors. I have them both on the Stock+ ROM and would like to apply this Fix.

Problem is I'm not sure which file to use because the link below to http://dinc.does-it.net/EXT4_Mods/ is broken.

Step 10: Apply the Fix. This is the step you've been waiting for!
  • Go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623038, click the link for the EXT4All files in the first post, download "Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip", and put it somewhere you'll remember. You can also go directly to this URL to download the file: http://dinc.does-it.net/EXT4_Mods/ (links updated 6/22/12)
  • ....
  • Scroll down to the very bottom and select "Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip"
  • Scroll down to "Yes - Install Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip" and click it. This step will take some time to complete, and the progress bar may not move at all. Be patient!
tiny4579 has similar files for download off Goo but they appear to be for AOSP ROMs so not sure if they would apply for my parents phone setup using a Sence based ROM.

If anyone has any insight or direction I'm all ears.

Thanks for the info!

Those ones on tinys goo.im page work with stock. The only difference is a fixed updater script :)

Do I have what I need for the fix?

First, thanks to all who have contributed for such a great guide. I am new to rooting, just having acquired 4 Incredibles about three months ago for my family to use on Page Plus through Kitty Wireless. All phones are on GB 2.3.4 and I am using a MacBook Pro running OS 10.8.4. My younger daughter is getting the low on space message, the rest of us have not experienced this yet. I have read through this whole thread but still need some reassurance I have this all right, so I have a few questions.

I have found and downloaded the Unrevoked 3.2.2 for Mac, and have the recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-inc.img and Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.v2.0.zip on my desktop. Are these files correct? Most of the links earlier in the thread are broken, but I was able to search and find these files.

Am I correct in thinking the Unrevoked actually roots the phone, and the other two files then modify the phone's operating system and apply the fix?

Am I correct in assuming the clockwork and data limit files are meant to run on the phone and not my MacBook?

Would I be better off finding a Windows machine to do this, or is a Mac equally good?

Should I try a factory reset before I try this fix to see if that corrects the problem?

Thanks for any replies in advance, the thread is old enough that I want to make sure the fix will still work. These phones have been working well for us, and while they are no longer expensive, I really don't want to brick any of them.

before you do anything, you need to have the bootloader unlocked, downgraded to froyo 2.2, rooted and then have CWM recovery installed-from CWM you can flash alternate ROMS and the low space fix. I don;t know if those old methods like unrevoked forever still work. even on the incredibleforum where it originated says it;s been depreciated. HTC did issue some updates that may have rendered them obsolete. since you say you are already on 2.34, it seems like your phones are updated past the point where those methods would work

all the info you need should be in this thread. it;s an involved process but it is worth doing. i looked for an easy 1 click way to root my phones(i have 3) but there was none.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600904

i did it on a windows xp pc which required some drivers to be installed.

by the way, the easiest way to clear up the low space issue is to delete any excess text messages. more than likely, your daughter saves every text message conversation she has ever gotten or sent. that;s one app that whose data grows over time. another is to move whatever apps that can be to sdcard. of course these are very temporary solutions that have limited lifespan. worse case scenario, you will pass the threshold where your phone can recover free space and become non functional requiring your phone to need a factory reset anyway.

Thanks- I'll investigate the link and follow your other directions. Looks like easy one step rooting is too good to be true.
