okay, cleared lots of stuff, the message finally went away.

plugged it in, clicked OK, (it was on the warning message).

then... i get this screen. doesn't seem to be doing anything...

my phone seems to be acting normal, i just sent myself a text, and i heard the notification, and i can interact w/ unrevoked 3.22, like, i can click file, and click open...

None of your pics are showing up, but do you have the drivers installed? Is usb debugging on? Make sure and try again.

no drivers installed cuz i am on the mac, so i don't think i needed any, usb debugging on. i wasn't sure what to do, if i could even touch my phone, etc.

i think i know what might have happened, unrevoked 3.22 gave me the warning message after i plugged my phone in about the possibility of ruining my phone. it said i could unplug to abort, or i could just click ok and it would start. i unplugged, fixed the low storage notification, THEN plugged it back in, w/ the warning message still up, and pressed OK then. then nothing happened. if i did it in one step, it would probably be okay, i will try again tonight.

Im not at all familiar with with macs, and am unsure if it needs drivers. But my guess would be it still does. I have seen other threads where people have had trouble rooting with macs, and gave up and found someone willing to them use their windows pc with success.

For Froyo, Macs do not need drivers in order to root the Inc. That's actually how I rooted my phone cuz a friend had a Mac readily available. Rooting GB is different and idk if our 2.3.4 root exploit works on Macs. Scotty1223 only confirmed it working on Windows only right?

hey! okay, this is what happened last night when rooting my phone w/ your directions, and i'll post it in case it happens to anyone else, so that they know what to do. and don't freak out, like i did, cuz i'm a noob.

i followed the directions for rooting, Step 8. i was doing the directions for 2.3.4.
after i clicked "OK," to root (don't unplug your phone and replug your phone when you see the warning screen, btw. that will mess up unrevoked. just start the process over again if you do.) i waited and waited, like... 10 minutes? maybe not even that. you see Unrevoked go through a bunch of notifications and techno-mumbo-jumbo.

after that, unrevoked 3.22 said "done." however, when i looked at my phone, it was this strange screen that was black, had Turquoise Blue menu options up at the top, and white script on the bottom. There was this error message...

"clockworkmod revovery v5.0.2.0 (other stuff...)
wating for sd card to mount (other stuff...)
sd card mounded...
verifying sd card marker...
sd card marker not found...
checking internal sd card marker...
error verifying extendedcommand.
error processing rom manager scipt. please verify that you have ROM manager v.4.4.0.0. or higher installed
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log Please open ROM manager to report the issue."

i was a little worried, cuz it said ERROR! but i knew something had happened, because It said Clockworkmod up (recovery?) top. after consulting my friend, he assured me that that was a good thing. i was in Recovery, and I wouldnt' be in that if i was not rooted. Also, after reading the error message, it looked like it was saying simply that it could not find ROM manager. so, due to my awesome friend's suggestion, i made a back up of my current ROM, aka my current the Stock ROM, aka it's like backing up every single file and setting on your phone, from there.
sat through all the back up stuff. from there, your phone reboots, and this takes a while, almost 10 minutes.

After it rebooted, I was back, baby! Stock everything showed up, all of my launcher settings and everything showed up, it was great! I proceeded to follow the directions using ROM Manager (I did have to try making a backup twice, the first gave me a permission error, but after that it was smooth sailing).

So, thank you!

NOW, i haven't done the MOD, "Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip" yet, but i will soon. this will install a mod on top of a gingerbread type ROM, right? only I won't notice any differences except for the notice going away, right?

again, thanks for the help, hope this post helps.

Correct the low space warning should go away other than that nothing noticible. You can install a terminal emulator app and then in it type " mount " without quotes. You will see a bunch of lines of text. Look for a linr that has /data and another line that has /cache, after both of them you should see the word ext4.

hello! yes! it works! thank you so much! and you're right, i don't notice a single thing at all. yay!

question: so, what in the world is on my phone that is taking up so much space? ;) before i applied the fix, i said i only have 10 mb free of the 150. and now i have... 175mb free of the 750. it's a lot left, but what is in there? if i move apps to SD, that frees up some of the room, correct? i tried checking under settings>sd card & storage, but when i moved something, it would take a couple of minutes for my phone to notice, or something. i wasn't sure if it directly correlated my move.

anyways, thanks for the help!

now, i'm getting the rom bug. i am already an EXTREMELY heavy launcher user, changing icons and themes all the time, love the stuff on the #colormeandroid page of deviant art, etc. i might be flashing a new rom sooner than i thought. any recommendations on good stable roms? and it would have to work w/ this MOD fixing the space issue...

so anyways, yes, the fix works! very good directions, a must follow. and there are lots of people that can help you on these forums as well, thank yoU!

Funkpod,

If you customize your launcher and use themes then you should use CM7.2. Using custom launchers on Sense removes much of the point of Sense which you are already aware. CM7.2 is CyanogenMod 7.2, an Android Open Source (AOSP) rom. It is highly functional with many features AND it makes perfect sense to customize/apply themes cuz stock Android on Gingerbread is ugly. You can either use the rom by Pons or the rom by Computerwiz, I use Pons' Kang CM7.2 rom and it just flies for me. Word of advice, the mod will be removed when you flash a new rom so you have to apply the mod each time you flash a rom. Try to re-install the ext4 mod only after you have used the new rom and ensured its working for you. If you have any first install issues, this helps to isolate the problems.

Oh, and welcome to the world of rooting! Glad you could get understand and successfully root. Once you root, it's very easy to get the urge to flash roms and see what you have been missing.

thanks for the quick response! question, i heard that this mod only works for gingersense and miui roms? i don't know if that's true or not, someone mentioned it on the original forum, i don't know if he meant that it ALSO worked on cyanogenmod, and he didn't mention it, or if it only worked on gingersense and miui...

I'm not sure why Cmlusco said that part about it only working on those two rom types, but it does work on every Gingerbread rom. It's in the title of the ext4 mod and detailed in the OP where the download links are.

Hello, maybe it's my own ignorance in ROM knowledge.

so, i see here,

http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/cyanogenmod-7-2-0-rc1-is-upon-us

that it is ...

"It’s been a long time in the making, but it’s finally here: CyanogenMod 7.2, the latest version based on Android 2.3(.7), has reached the release candidate stage!"

so, 2.3 is gingerbread, so their "2.3(.7)" still makes it compatible w/ the mod, right? very interesting. it might be faster without sense on top?

The .x releases are typically bug fixes and improvements that Google has published to the source code that pushed to other devices at a later date. The short answer to your two questions is yes. AOSP is typically more efficient on battery and less susceptible to lag than Sense roms. What's included in any 2.3.x release doesn't resolve the way HTC skimped the manner this phone handles app space.

Edit: 2.2 = Froyo, 2.3.x = Gingerbread.

Got to Rom Manager and now stuck

I got thru step 8 and used the ROM Manager app. Once it was done my phone went to the white HTC Incredible screen and now comes off and on every few seconds. I've taken out the battery and tried restarting my phone. I'm not sure what to do now. I went back to the HBOOT screen, but since I'm so new at this wasn't sure what to do. I did notice the 'S' was in the 'on' position.

Is there a way to back or should I follow the thread for root 2.3.4, downgrade, and S-off, another way to fix the issue, or ?

I just want to get the "Low on space" problem fixed. It's driving me crazy.

Thanks for any suggestions and help.

hey, i think you are in a boot loop.

i think you can take your battery out, put it back in, hold down the volume down and the power button. i think that should take you back into clockworkmod recovery. and then you can reboot from your saved rom backup?
