hey, i think you are in a boot loop.

i think you can take your battery out, put it back in, hold down the volume down and the power button. i think that should take you back into clockworkmod recovery. and then you can reboot from your saved rom backup?
It worked! Of course I was trying not to flip out while it was rebooting and still was unsure of everything.

All I can say is I hate not being technology literate. It takes 4x or more longer to figure things out and that's a maybe.

Thanks for the quick response and the help.

One other question. I got the "Low On Space" problem fixed. Thanks a lot.

It looks like the S is in the 'On' position. Would I need to have it 'off' to take off the bloatware and to use my phone as a tether. If I do what would I need to do?

I did see the thread for 'root 2.3.4 downgrade, and s-off', but was kind of overwhelmed about what to do since I have done some if it.

Thanks again.

I'm in the same boat. I am going to sit on my root and not worry about s off or anything else for a while. Maybe I will install cyanogenmod 7, see how that is. No rush.

I'm glad that I helped! Very surprised that I could, in fact. Good stuff.

Excellent! My wife has been getting this error on her Incredible for ages. It will be great to fix it for her. Now, if I can just port her phone poor of her hands...

Saludos,
Steve

Somebody has the same issue? after flashing the zip i cannot use correctly the compass sensor, for example in SkyMaps app. :(
Not sure if this question has been answered but in case it hasn't I'll summarize.

The included kernel (gingertiny 10/15) doesn't have the best compass support - it's a port - but if you flash a later release (on page 1 of the development thread) it should take care of it.

OK, I followed all the instructions, and kept getting an error message "Failed to get root". Now my Incredible just boots to the white HTC Incredible screen and nothing else. I searched and tried some recommended fixes but the seem to be for rooted phones and I don't believe the root was successful.

Any help please.

Trying to do this on my POS Incredible and I can't even open/download the first link in the instructions... it opens to a blank white page. I am ready to throw my phone out the window if I can't get this to work! Help?

On a MBP.

2.15.10.07.07
0.92.0000
2.3.4

I just reflashed Gingerbread back to stock. And I have tried again, and it is doing the same exact thing. Except Unrevoked said "done" but the phone was stuck on a black screen with white borders, and if I try to boot the phone back up it just loops to the white htc incredible screen.

I need help....quickly if possible. I am on Step 8 (Root Your Phone) running Android Version 2.3.4

Plug in your phone and wait while Unrevoked runs automatically. It will reboot your phone several times and will take some time, so be patient!
Once it's done, unplug your phone and ensure that a "Superuser Permissions" application is inside your app drawer. Don't run it. Instead, go to Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> All, scroll down to "Superuser Permissions", click it, then click "Clear data". Return back Home.
On my computer, the Unrevoked program said 'Done' (after many other messages and many automatic phone reboots). Now, on my phone....I have the EXACT same thing as the following poster:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24761438&postcount=51

The turquoise blue menu options at the top that the poster mentions are the following:
-reboot system now
-apply update from sdcard
-wipe data/factory reset
-install zip from sdcard
-backup and restore
-mounts and storage
-advanced
-power off

Please advise me what to do at this screen. The instructions tell me to unplug phone and ensure that a "superuser Permissions" application is inside app drawer. Well....I have no idea how to go beyond this current screen to even check my app drawer. I followed the OP instructions to the letter. Anything outside of those instructions, I have not done. What's next?

**UPDATE**
I did not know you have to press the Trackball button when you select options in Recovery Mode......I was pressing the power button the whole time and it wasn't working. Nobody told me this. I chose the 'Reboot System Now' option and it looks like I'm onto the next step. Just thought I'd share what my problem/solution was. I think this should be cleared up

**ANOTHER UPDATE w/Question**
Everything went just fine. Method worked great! Thank you! But I have the same question as the other guy has....this question was not answered by anyone either. His question is

"question: so, what in the world is on my phone that is taking up so much space? before i applied the fix, i said i only have 10 mb free of the 150. and now i have... 175mb free of the 750. it's a lot left, but what is in there? if i move apps to SD, that frees up some of the room, correct? i tried checking under settings>sd card & storage, but when i moved something, it would take a couple of minutes for my phone to notice, or something. i wasn't sure if it directly correlated my move. "

This is even more pronounced on my phone. 393mb used and 355mb free. What the hell racked up so much space in this whole process? Please explain

hey, wusup? i don't exactly know what is taking up all your space, or my space, but it sounds like you have a lot more free space than i do! ;) just move as many apps to sd as you can and you should have more than enough space, hopefully until your next upgrade.

btw, i'm glad that my instructions helped. from that screen, you just make a backup file while you're in clockworkmod recovery, and then reset.

how're you enjoying your rooted phone? I plan on installing the latest cyanogenmod 7 nightly tonight, w/ incredikernel.

Problem with rebooting into recovery

Whenever I use Rom manager to reboot into recovery my incredible goes onto the white htc screen and then a black line appears followed by a black screen with white stripes on the very side. The same thing happens whenever I put my phone in recovery mode via power/volume down button. Does anybody have any suggestions on what to do?

To be honest, I'm seriously considering only removing bloatware and keeping everything else how it is. I've been reading and seeing stuff about ROMs and Kernels for a couple years now....it all sounds fascinating but a bit overwhelming at the moment. For example, doing a quick google search for incredikernel brought me to the maker's homepage.....yet the dev doesn't talk at all about what this kernels features/benefits are.

Also, S-off or S-on? Using the rooting method in this thread....which am I? And if I'm still S-on, can I flash ROMs and put new kernels on safely?

Another question:
So, all I've done is followed the rooting/low-space removal instructions here. I go to About Phone and see this in the Kernal Version:

2.6.35.10-ginertiny+

What kernal is that!? Also, if I wanna just flash IncrediKernal without any custom ROM on my Droid Incredible....can I just use the IncrediKernal Sense versions found at the bottom of the Dev's latest downloads page
Can I use the latest version (the one I mention below)?
2.6.35.14 gingertiny-v2 03/11/2012 (956)

i was super duper overwhelmed, i only rooted last week! well, no, 2 weeks ago, now. I only did it to get the Low STorage Notification to go away. Now, i'm looking to improve the performance of my phone.

I think the INcredikernel will improve battery life and allow for Fast Charge, which, umm, charges fast. but yeah, i noticed the same thing too, the maker doesn't explain at all on his site why flash Incredikernel at all.

after this method, you will still have s-on. s-on just means that verizon or htc can undo your root it you get an over the air update. s-off is a whole new level of rooting, don't worry about doing it yet. give yourself some time and do it later, i'd say.

**UPDATE**
Well I just flashed that version anyway. Been a couple hours using it, everything seems alright. I did have a couple freeze/reboots...not quite sure why. Its blazing fast though! Remarkable difference in speed.

Gingertiny is the kernel installed with the ext4 mods. The low space (ext4) mods require a kernel that supports ext4. I am unsure if incredikernel does, but i believe so. Ginger tiny is a great kernel and has just about everything you could want, ext4, usb fast charge, over / under clocking, over / under volting. Has several great governors including smartass v2 my favorite. It also supports 2.4ghz wireless N. I also believe that chad the maker of incredikernel and tiny of gingertiny colaborate together on both kernels.

I'm still on Froyo on my incredible*, does the low space warning mod work on froyo, or just gingerbread?

---------
*I've modified so much on my phone to get it exactly how I like, I'm a little too lazy to do it after upgrading to another ROM (I'm on Virtuous).
