I'm still on Froyo on my incredible*, does the low space warning mod work on froyo, or just gingerbread?

---------
*I've modified so much on my phone to get it exactly how I like, I'm a little too lazy to do it after upgrading to another ROM (I'm on Virtuous).
I will respond on the mod thread unless you can't post there then I'll post here and quote it there.

Did it work?
(Flash mod, flash froyo incredikernel)

Looks like you can find it here: http://dinc.does-it.net/EXT4_Mods/
Good to see it's still hosted!

Thnx for that! Got the file...

I'm running Miui GB 2.4.20, so presumed I could just go strait to step 10. Booted my Moto Defy into recovery and installed Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip. When I rebooted my defy, it started installing an app (1.8mb) that failed before because of low on space. A few seconds later the message was back. When I had a look at the free space, nothing changed.

What to do, what to do?

I dont think this will work on a motorola defy. Motorola has different sytem paths and files than the incredible.

The basic /system /data and /cache structure would still exist. If the mod works it still will do absolutely nothing for the Defy unless the defy has a separate /data/data partition. It may have ext4 by default already. However it's usually not a good idea to flash a mod for a different phone. In this case it should be safe; however I wouldn't advise it.

I didn't realise it was for a particular model. But it looks like it didn't do anything at all.

Is there anything else you guys know I can do about this "low on space"? I have just about 10 apps, some of them just around 500kb. If I uninstall all my apps there is about 185 MB free space. But the internal memory of the moto defy is 1.5 Gb. Is theire a cache I can swipe without causing problems?

****EDIT****

As many with these problems I just found out that the /data/tombstones folder takes a lot of space. Aparently there are just debug log files in there and you can just delete them. Might have to use a Explorer like Yaffs Explorer with root access to do so. I was able to delete almost 1Gb. :O)

I must be the biggest idiot. When I go to "extract" the clockwork file, I click on it and it says "no mountable file" or something. What the hell does this mean? I am very frustrated with this stupid POS phone, as I can't even send texts anymore cus I have no memory.

I don't think you want to extract a file, I think there is an option to install a zip?

Sent from my Incredible.
Aw yeah.

Never saw an affirmation on the one potential fix suggested for the quoted issue.

Hi!

Is there a way to revert this?

Everything worked just fine for the "low space" alert, but now I can't get the WiFi to access Internet (it connects, but no Internet access).

Besides, camera is Black & White only =S
I have the same problem (no internet even though I am connected to my wireless router). Also, my camera is only black and white. The wifi issue leaves me helpless at home since we have absolutely no mobile data network available where I live.

Particulars:
Android version - 2.2
Baseband version - 2.15.00.07.28
Kernel version - 2.6.35.14-gingertiny-v2+
Build number - 3.21.605.1 CL231334 release=keys
Software number - 3.21.605.1
Browser version - WebKit 3.1
PRI version - 1.28_002
PRL version - 52642
ERI version - 5

My Incredible is rooted and s-off. Have applied:
Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip
to clean up the low application memory annoyance.
I then updated my kernel as suggested.

Still no wifi and only b&w camera.

Please tell me there is a fix for this :)

Not sure why it would affect the camera. To fix wifi try flashing the kernel again. Or unzip the kernel file and navagate to system/lib/modules and copy the bcm4329.ko file and paste and overwrite the file to /system/lib/modules. Change permissions to rwxr-xr-x and groop and owner to root. Then turn off and bacl on wifi.

EDIT: Wait your issue is your on froyo and this mod uses a gingerbread kernel. Im not sure if the froyo and gingerbread init.inc.rc files are the same, the mod might not even have done anything or mabey not everything it should have. What kernel are you using now, does it have ext4 support?

Yes, I have Android 2.2. I installed a gingerbread kernel - 2.6.35.14-gingertiny-v2-12312011.zip (after I applied the mod). My memory report indicates that the mod did work. I'm worried about installing Gingerbread. Would that unroot my device?

Thats definitley the cause of your issues. You either need to find froyo kernel with ext4 support, or flash a gingerbread rom. Im surprised froyo even boots with a gb kernel installed.

It depends what you mean by install gingerbread. If you do an ota or flash a gingerbread ruu, yes it will unroot you. However you are s-of so geting root back is easy. Just flash cwm thru hboot, then flash superuser thru recovery, instsll busy box and your good to go. But if you just flash a rom based on gingerbread, you will still be rooted, as almost all roms come pre rooted. My advice is to flash a gb based rom, then flash this mod, then flash an updated gingertiny kernel, as the mod installs an older version.

There is one froyo sense kernel that supports ext4 that I know of for sure (incredikernel 2.6.32.27 from Dec 2010), but it's worth it to go to gingerbread unless you want to still use froyo for some reason. In that case I'd recommend Skyraider which I think might be the best Froyo Sense ROM.

If I use ROM Manager and flash 'Touch of Blue' does that still need the mod and kernel updated?

It has the ext4 mod built in. But newer kernels have been rleased since the one the rom comes with.
Thanks. All working now with one apparent problem. Can't get my contacts from Backup Assistant. Always force closes. Trying to send them down from browser doesn't workeither.Any ideas??? BTW:Thanks for all the quick and accurate replies....

EDIT: process com.android.htccontacts stopped unexpectedly. Try again...
