First of all, awesome guide, great for newbies like myself...

I am already rooted (only - no safestrap) and wanted to know
1. If I do this, will it make any changes to the Knox counter and will it change my status from custom to official? (ie. completely stock, ready for warranty?)
2. I obviously will have to root again, correct (will root survive with SUPro)?
3. I want to keep MJ7, I am assuming I can use the same method with MJ7 TAR file

Thanks for your help
Using the method in OP has not tripped knox for anyone who has used it.

If you remain on MJ7 you will not be able to flash roms built with MJE. Several Note 3 rom devs have stated to use their new rom builds based on MJE update, you'll have to be running the MJE update (either by tar file or taking ota while on stock MJ7 firmware. ..

Some have successfully used 'ota survival' in supersu pro, some have not.

Why do you want to keep MJ7?

I've followed your link and I see all the files and I've read everything on there but still don't understand.:(
Ok. No worries. Tell me exactly what you've done so far, where you are in the process right now, and we'll do this step by step.

Thanks so much……well early this morning I did the Kingo Android Root…..I didn't know if I was suppose to but I tried anyway….and it said I was rooted. My question is……what's the difference using the Kingo method and doing the Odin3 and MJE tar method? Do they do the same thing….is one better then the other?

Thanks for the guide. I have a couple of questions.
It's stated in this thread that this wipes data, such as apps, accounts, etc. Basically back to "out of box", but this doesn't happen. When I have uses Ordin, all my stuff is still there, I just lose Safestrap and Root (even though the app icons are sometimes still there).
Also, what about the .pit file I have seen in other guides. Is it not necessary?
Thanks in advance.

Using Odin to install MJE tar returns your phone to OEM stock software, Kingo just allows you to install a recovery (safestrap) but has nothing to do with the software version.

If you are on MJE already, and rooted with Kingo, you are now ready to install safestrap...

Flashing a file in Odin is supposed to WIPE your device clean. This thread is regarding a different device, but the process and results are the same; complete wipe and out-of-the-box clean.. The first time I used Odin something went wrong and I had the same thing happen where it left my apps, desktop, files, etc, but I had constant UI force closes as the process didn't wipe everything.

I ended up doing a factory reset and it completely wiped the device.

As far as the PIT file, I have never used that option so I don't know anything about it, sorry.

I understand that but what happened was I connect my phone put the tar in the Ap and then wait for it to check md5 then once ready hit start then when it gets to the pit mapping part it fails 5 min in

Are you clicking the PIT / partitioning button? I suggest starting the process from scratch, when in ODIN, make sure you only click "AP" button and "START" button as outlined in instructions. I have used this exact process several times and PIT mapping has never been an issue...

Let me know how it goes :)

Hey, I can't thank you enough for the help…..and sorry if things have to be explained like I'm a 2 year old. Do I download the safestrap file on my phone or download it to my computer then put it on my phone?

PS-- Sent you a little thank you….it's not much but I wanted to show my appreciation!!

Look man, we ALL started from scratch at one point, and someone helped us, so I have no problem helping you or others :) And THANKS for the donation! I pass it along to the devs whose work I use, so it DOES get put to good use.

d/l safestrap APK to sdcard

once rooted, go to SS apk and click it, install it. Once installed, OPEN SS and click INSTALL recovery, and you're ready to flash roms in SS!

Why do you want to keep MJ7?
I want to keep using the wifi tether in its simplest form. I know with MJE, you can do it after root and modifications, but I am too nervous about safestrap and possibility of tripping Knox. I know I don't need to, as you can install custom ROMs without tripping Knox (I believe), but it will take some time for me to get comfortable.

No problem. I can tell you safestrap doesn't trip knox, and SS is really easy to use. When you're ready to take that step, get at me :D

OK….so I downloaded the ss apk to my sdcard and put it back in my phone…..now where/how do I find it?

Now a window pops up in superSU saying "Samsung KNOX has beed detected. This might limit root capabilities and cause annoying popups. Try to disable KNOX? Cancel or OK………..what should I do?

Knox has been detected... Once I ignored it, knox NOT tripped. Once I chose 'disable" and knox NOT tripped.

if you didn't specify a destination for the SS apk, it should be in your DOWNLOADS file (use any file explorer)
