Well I bit the bullet and used Odin last night to unroot my phone. Wasn't to hard to do even though my screen was completely black lol. I'll just tell good ol Big Red that my phone was in the middle of updating when the screen went out lmao. Wish me luck all =]

You won't have to tell them anything. I would have done a factory reset before sending my phone back even if it weren't rooted so nobody could see my files.

Secure Check Fail : PIT

I followed the steps exactly with Odin v3.09 and the MJE retail ROM, but Odin fails with the error:
<ID:0/005> Added!!
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> ALL_N900VVRUBMJE_N900VVZWMJE_2106277_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
<ID:0/005> Odin v.3 engine (ID:5)..
<ID:0/005> File analysis..
<ID:0/005> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/005> Initialzation..
<ID:0/005> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/005> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
<ID:0/005> FAIL!
<ID:0/005>
<ID:0/005> Re-Partition operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
On the phone, I see the following in red:
SECURE CHECK FAIL : PIT
What should I do? Going all the way to MJE or just returning to the way things were, either works. At this point, I'm terrified of doing anything for fear of bricking the phone. Thanks!

By the way, the device is not yet rooted. I'm doing this in preparation for Safestrap (as described in a related thread). Perhaps rebooting and accepting an OTA update would work?

When I flashed MJE in Odin, I didn't touch the PIT settings, only the settings in my tutorial... Honestly, I don't know the use or the necessity of flashing the PIT file. I didn't do anything with the PIT settings and haven't had any issues that the cause wasn't already known.

I suppose if Odin still gives you fits without using the PIT file, just take the OTA to MJE and THEN root and install safestrap.

Sorry I am not more knowledgeable on the PIT file or it's necessity...

Here's a link from a RC I highly respect and his instructions for updating to MJE in Odin also say nothing about the PIT file...

That's the strange part. I didn't touch any of the PIT settings or anything. The only things checked are the "Auto Reboot" options and the "F. Reset Time" checkboxes; the only two buttons I clicked were "AP" and "Start."

Anyways, OTA sounds like the way to go. The question is, how do I dislodge my phone from Odin? Do I unplug then remove the battery and put it back in to restart? Or is there an "abort" button or something?

I've always held the power button till it rebooted. Weird you got a PIT fail if you weren't flashing a PIT file? I'm no Odin expert, I just share what worked for me :D

Thank you very much! I'm embarrassed to say that the problem was due to me pointing the wrong file for my phone. Everything's working now.
