In detail tell me what you where doing prior to the fail screen.
I rooted my phone using Kingo everything said it was OK. Then I downloaded clock work recovery and pressed recovery mode that took me to the screen that has locked me out.

Have you tried pulling battery, then vol down, home, power to get to odin?
I just called verizon. Pressed on off button and home screen button. and volume down button at same time. Went to warning screen. Pressed volume down again.
It started up. Verizon also did restart I think.

You can NOT install cwm on N3...

Now that you're running, what version are you on; mj7 mje?

Do you know if the app Voodoo ota rootkeeper will work to save root and unroot when there are updates.
Not sure about voodoo. I suggest everyone use Kingo. It roots (very easily) and unroots as well.

I recommend you flash MJE via Odin, then follow root link in my sig. No worries, nice and easy. Recovery is Safe strap (a version of twrp)... do not install CWM recovery OR Twrp ... only install safestrap as N3 has locked bootloader....

Just saw a video on ODIN PRO for note 2 updating without loosing root. Can I use this to install the new 4.4 kitkat tar from Poland using ODIN PRO without losing root? Can I install this Poland firmware on my Verizon?

Thanks I will wait for the right tar to come out. I assume you use Odin to install this on the phone? Do I need to manually uninstall safestrap before downloading tar file? (or anything else on the phone).
Do I need to change slots in safestrap before downloading new tar file. I am in rom 1 custom slot. Will new update override this?

After tar file is installed can I reinstall SS and recover what was on my phone?
Yes as long as you can install SS again and everything was backed up via SS. Your backups are stored on your SD card witch a Odin flash will not touch. I would just make sure SS is compatible with whatever .tar you flash first.
