man, it is astonishing to see that it does fix, it seems that the green light indeed could be fix. but how?
is it only can be done by your operation procedure, or some independent files could be ported and flashed to fix?
The issue we believe is somewhere in the devtree partition, we don't know exactly what, In theory if you flashed the 3.4.2 .sbf your camera flash should work (full wipe before hand aswell just in case) I can only comment on my process/investigations.

thanks for your replies.
i did do a full wipe before and after flashing the 3.4.2.sbf, actually i did 3 full wipe before flashing the sbf.
the disappointing fact is, the flash light is still damn weak green, suggests that it is not yet fixed.
but good news is, you said the problem is a software problem, not a hardware damage. or, let's hope so...

It does fix the green light problem, I wouldn't have posted it if I hadn't spent hors testing to find a fix for the problem lol
Sorry, just to be clear, you *were* not clear enough. you said nothing regarding a) units came with 2.51 b) the green led

And your method doesn't apply especially for those came with 2.51 firmware (including me) -- that's where I'm at from the beginning.

So while I understand your method might work for some ("might" because I can't test it nor do people I know who suffered from the green led),
you could have made it clear that there's no solution for 2.51/3.4.2 with green or dim led (which you do now)

ps. correct me if I'm wrong: you can't lose something you never had, right? ie. I never lost downgradability by flashing 2.51 since it came with 2.51
ps2. all my posts here are referring to the initial post, I can't forsee what's next:D

Hi Higgsy,

I tried your tutorial and have already problems at step one:
when I choose the china.sbf in rsd lite I have no start button. Other sbf like the uk 2.34 I can flash, maybe because I still have 2.34 ? Flashing the new UK 3.4.2 Froyo with system recovery causes a bootloop and the only thing that is working with rsd lite is the old 2.34 sbf ... What am I doing wrong ???

Have you flashed the boot only/dev tree sbf? after restoring the back up - you dont mention that in your post?

Extract the sbf out the folder

I am in a similar boat. I got RSDLite 4.9 to flash 2.34 but I simply can't get it to recognize my phone anymore. The start button shows up but does not do anything...

*facepalm* (Just struck me now while I was typing) Do I per chance need to run RSDLite as admin on Win7?

Titanium Backup fails to acquire root

So I get asked by su to permit Titanium Backup to get root which I do but still it fails to get root. I even rerooted with superoneclick but it still does not seem to work, which is annoying as it means I can't restore my apps at all... Any pointers to that?

Try clicking on the problem icon near the bottom of the screen once you are in TB, it will source the BusyBox files needed to run it, which is probably causing your rooting error.

THanks for the new ROM and instructions. So it is clear that i can do this installation on my french defy even if I have never upgraded at all, still being on 2.21 ?

But i won't be able to disable the blur apps?

Hey, whats the difference between GB and US Image?
Is there any possibility to change GB to US? Do i have to reflash devtree.sbf after i restored the other Backup?

Looking forward to your answers ;)

Higgsy, one clarification needed. What should we flash when we mess up say doing some theme job or trying some stuff and then the phone gets bricked. Which sbf to flash?. Should this entire procedure be repeated again :(
