THanks for the new ROM and instructions. So it is clear that i can do this installation on my french defy even if I have never upgraded at all, still being on 2.21 ?

But i won't be able to disable the blur apps?
Yeah you can delete what you want mate

Jboogie, Higgsy or Inteks, can anyone of you please deblur the GB froyo for us pleaaaaaaaaaase :)
I wouldn't ever do that coz I like alot of the blur stuff, just not the social networking rubbish. Thats more handler exploit's domain.

Hey, whats the difference between GB and US Image?
Is there any possibility to change GB to US? Do i have to reflash devtree.sbf after i restored the other Backup?

Looking forward to your answers ;)
Once you have flashed the dev tree/boot sbf you can switch between the 2 - The GB is MUCH better imo though, especially for your locale

Higgsy, one clarification needed. What should we flash when we mess up say doing some theme job or trying some stuff and then the phone gets bricked. Which sbf to flash?. Should this entire procedure be repeated again :(
Its really no biggy, you would have taken a nandroid right? So what you would do is flash the chinese, root+recovery, restore your nandroid/data from your backup and then flash the dev/boot sbf. really the only extra step is flashing the dev/boot after restoring your backup - adds an extra minute to the process if that?

Man, I am reading this now... with the uk froyo installed 'my way'.

I installed china froyo, restored the uk froyo, installed boot only and what I think is the mistake, I too installed camera fix. Looked like flash is not at 100%.

I have fully personalized this thinking all were perfect, so... would be possible to install it again but with my nandroid backup to fix the camera? Or I will have to do all from the begining?

Thanks in advance

Hey Higgsy,
Followed your steps to the letter for the GB froyo install, and I'm still getting the camera flash out of sync and has blue/green tinge from previous state. I have come from your froyo image for the China rom. Would it help if I first flashed GB 2.34 SBF first to get the flash working? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Hmm you need to follow the steps in the OP, I.E start a fresh. Start with a wiped 2.2chinese base, then follow the rest of the steps, don't know what may be caused by flashing over my original chinese rom and also need to keep the data partition clean, a. wait until later anyways coz I will have a ROM for 2.2 GB base out.

Thank's this worked flawlessly for me, though I had tor retry rooting four times.
Flash is fine only Google Goggles doesn't work correctly - the flashlight goes on and off constantly.

Wow that freakin' amazing!
Froyo is Delicious! Totally snappy, fluent and fast. :)

I have to say that i like MotoBlur and even with it installed it's absolutely fast.

Now, i just have to find out if it's possible to mod the notification bar ;)

It seems that I am F*CKED!

I'm on the T-Mo 3.6.360 firmware. I hace RSDLite 4.9 and 4.9 USB Drivers.

I start flashing the Chinese SBF and it completes. But my phone won't boot anymore. It just sits there with a black screen. I tried removing the battery and then booting but I get the same result. Just a black screen. But when I plug it in via USB, the notification LED is white.

I tried flashing 3 times now but it's the same result every time.

Someone, HELP!!!!!

I did start with the wiped 2.2 CN SBF and followed your steps exactly, just mentioned that i came from your old ROM to begin with, before i started on your steps (sorry, need to be more clear!). Since then I have flashed back to 2.1 firmwares for 2.21 UK, and 2.34 EU, and stock recover wiped each to see if the flash was working again, but no luck. I then re-did the steps and restored your new UK base ROM, and still no luck. While on this ROM, I have tried wiping Camera in TB, factory reset, Stock recover wipe, and still the same. Other apps don't work with flash as it should, eg Vignette (no light), 360 Camera Ultimate (un-synced, blue tinge), Extended Controls (flashlight toggle does nothing, no light), TeslaLED (no light), Mag Flashlight ((no light) etc...

It seems a select group of people are having the same problem, while it works for others. Can anyone shed any light on this issue? Has anyone faced the same problems i have described but have subsequantly found a fix?

Hmm well yeah I had these issues and the process fixed it for me and for others who tested for me. So is the flash not even working on 2.21 or 2.34? as mine always did, it was only when I flashed back to the chinese it started playing up again. if its not then maybe its an actual hardware fault?

Yeah, not working on 2.21 or 2.34. Seems the fault started with the 2.2 CN SBF, and has followed every SBF since. Weird. Will keep trying..

Having quite some experience with flashing windows mobile roms I am still very new to custom Android roms. I expect my Defy over the mail next week and am already getting all necessary software to upgrade.

Now according to your TS all custom Froyo roms out there for the Defy make downgrading later impossible. Does that mean downgrading to Eclair? Because if that's the only thing becoming impossible then I don't really care as long as I can keep flashing Froyo and later versions. On a sidenote: how is it possible that the Chinese 2.2 rom does not lock in the phone?

Is it possible to flash the image from the Froyo UK DeBlurred rom instead in the whole process? This is how every Froyo rom should be installed if you don't want to lose downgradability?

What is the boot/devtree.sbf for? Does it have to be flashed every time a rom has been installed? Sorry I am still a bit in the dark here. ;)

Thanks for all your effort here. I already know I am going to be another happy Android user! :)

all depends what software version your phone comes with. If it comes with 2.51 Eclair (Android 2.1) then it is non downgradable and this method will not apply to you. If it comes with either 2.21/2.34 Eclair then follow this process to retain the ability of flashing other .sbfs

So if I get this correctly then a non-downgradable phone can never flash other sbf's but can still have any kind of rom as long as there is a nand backup?

Can't flash the dev/boot tree sbf. Just says failed flashing process.

Edit: Can't flash the signed US sbf either. weird. I was mainly doing this because the camera stopped working on me with Vanilla. But after all my flashing and restoring it is working again. If anyone has any ideas, though, I would like to try this again later.

Thanks man! Finally I can use 2.2 with flash working!

I went from stock 2.21 central europe to sbf 2.34 JIT deodexed, cam flash still perfectly working. Then a trip to China with one and only flash (reboot needed). So I went back to sbf 2.21 ce and then to sbf 2.34 JIT deodexed, cam flash working.
