Hey guys, I've noticed several of the ops mention running your system unencrypted to avoid a couple difficulties but I cant figure out how to do that. As we know the system is encrypted by default but when I click on the encryption setting under security in settings nothing happens. Any thoughts?

For the record, you've confused the need to decrypt files before modifying them, which happens when TWRP loads successfully, which requires you to set up pin or pattern when you successfully boot into stock for first time.

Keep encrypted. Decrypt when using (see your files)

Before the O update, I was able to use the Pixel unencrypted. I have Verizon-bought Pixels. They're encrypted by default. Like you've experienced, you can't change this in Settings. You'd have to unencrypt via the use of Magisk -- and have to factory reset in the process. Unencryption made my phones a tad faster, and avoid issues with TWRP. The main benefits of unencryption was the regain of storage as it utilized significant space to encrypt, in addition to requires CPU resources to decrypt on demand. However, Magisk does not work any longer. Sure, Google wants you to believe encryption keeps your data more secured. However, my banking and communications apps already provide encryption.

Encryption does provide security and integrity to your file system. It is not something Google has dreamed up to annoy you. As an IT Director and HIPAA Healthcare Security Officer, I know all to well the importance of encryption of file systems.

As a user, I want to be able to choose what to encrypt. By the way, I'm a HIPAA and PCI service provider.
