Hello everyone,
I know it has been mentioned in device-specific posts, but I wanted to address this from a wider perspective.

I own a Redmi K40 Gaming phone, for which there are no global ROMs available yet (Hopefully there will be with the Poco re-branding), which comes with MIUI 12.5 out of the box. As you would know, it doesn't support GMS, sames as with other models like Redmi K30 Ultra, Redmi 10X and basically any other MTK high end devices (As announced by Xiaomi).

Personally, I'm OK with surviving without Google. Providing that: 1) I can get the apps I need 2) said apps work "normally".

For point 1) we can always get apps from other sources: Aptoide, APKpure, FDroid, or even here in XDA! You may not find all, and some may depend on GMS themselves, but it is possible.

The problem I have encountered is with #2. Some of said apps doesn't work the same when installed from third-party repositories. And that is what gives me more troubles

One problem is that when I install an app from any other source, the notifications never work properly. I have Facebook open, all permissions are given, I get a notification in another device but it doesnt come here. Same happens with Whatsapp.

Another issue is that some apps, despite installing properly, just don't work. I have tried a few games (Marvel Strike Force, Injustice 2, Real Racer 3) all of them give one or another problem

So, the idea of this thread (If you help me please), is for users without GMS to share what workarounds they have used to survive the Google vs Chinese phones war.

For example, where do you get the apps? What apps sustitutions you have enjoyed? What things you had to do to get the apps to work properly? and so on...

Thanks all for your help!

Cheers

So far I've been installing most, if not all, apps through Aurora store. Almost all work properly, but MIUI (Especially in its Chinese version) is a !@#$#@$ with notifications and killing apps in the background.

I think the hardest part is the crazy amount of apps that depend directly of GMS...
