Sorry guys, it seems I forgot a step and that file is not related to the firmware update. I need to wait again to receive the update message and do the process again.

Good to know

Hi Everyone,

It was brought to my attention that there really isn't a clear explanation anywhere (as far as I know) on how to capture an OTA update file once you've downloaded it (for backup and/or testing purposes of course). So I've decided to write up this brief and simple "How to guide".

1. You need a rooted device
2. You'll need to download and install root explorer or Super Manager
3. Go ahead and download the OTA update BUT once downloaded DO NOT INSTALL yet, hit your back button or simply tap install later.
4. Open root explorer and navigate to the folder that says cache.
5. You'll see the OTA update file in there tap and hold then select copy.
6. Paste file to your external sd card (from there you'll be able to move it to your PC or where ever.
7. Since you have now successfully made a copy of your update (purley for backup purposes of course) navigate to your settings>about phone>system update and this will bring back the option to install the update :)

Any questions or suggestions I would be more than willing to answer or make edits to the OP if anyone sees a step I skipped or missed

Thanks to DarkRyoushii for the idea
Thanks dLo GSR for the super manager suggestion

I just got a notice to download update 4.1.83, but in the cache the file is named 4.1.57. I tried it without unfreezing stuff and that didn't work, so after a battery pull and thawing everything I'm thinking of trying it again. Is there a reason I shouldn't?

The purpose isn't for executing its for backing up and testing other things like bootloader stuff. Now as far as executing whenever you'd like its an OTA those updates are available just by simply checking for updates

But thats just my 2 cents :)

Hi there...I´m using the Super Manager but I can´t find the /cache folder :(

I´m at the top directory "/" and I can´t find the OTA update... :/
Help plz

Another thing....what does OTA mean? I saw on google something like "over the air" and it didn´t make sense to me.

This will only work if you're rooted and yes OTA means over the air and that's because you're receiving the update wirelessly.

But thats just my 2 cents :)

Atrix router config problems from brazil

Hi, my name is Rafael de Sousa, from Brazil. I bought a Motorola Atrix recently unlocked, AT & T, for use in Brazil. My local operator is Digitel Tim, and I have everything working perfectly. I'm trying to configure my phone as a wifi router, but when trying to do, a message appears saying that I have set up an account with AT & T or calor to 611 (I dont have at&t account, because I was in brazil). So, I would like to know how to solve this problem. Please could someone help me? Thanks
