Display on device set at 10 min? PC anti virus disabled? Good Internet connection?

If yes to all those and still no go: strongly consider flashing MJE TAR file in Odin. When all else fails, start back at step one.

Yeah I did both of those. I found the problem. I downloaded 1.6.0 of VRoot which wasn't working. I had no idea how to read what it was doing so I wasn't sure what to do... It started some progress bar (which I guess meant that it was downloading a new version) so I waited then it updated to version 1.7.5. That worked.

not sure if this is mentioned:

Hi, Thank you for root thread. I had not rooted my phone yet due to some crap in my personal life. I did it last night using an old PC with windows xp and old samsung drivers. No go. This morning I used a Windows 7 machine and let the kingo app install the drivers. It worked the first time. Maybe you want to add this to OP just in case. Thanks again.

I'm not sure about how old of an OS wouldn't work, the OP does say to uninstall old samsung drivers and install newest ones.

Thanks for this guide.

Sold the Dev and picked up a retail.

Everything is gooooooooolden. Thanks again.
Why did you sell the developer edition to go to retail- of you don't mind me asking?

I don't have the note 3, but was thinking about purchasing that over the retail ads the boot loader was not locked.

Just curious. Thanks in advance.

Which vendor are you looking at? Certainly NOT Verizon!

I bought it with the intentions of running asop Roms. Then only to be more satisfied with tw Roms. So there wasn't really any other reason for me to keep the Dev. Simple as that. Lol.

Anybody have a working VRoot that has been downloaded that can be shared? My downloads keep failing. I've been at it for 2 hours with no success. (Kingo repeatedly failed to root.)

NVM - Nth attempt was successful.

Edit: SUCCESS!! Rooted and strapped, now browsing for potential ROMs. Thanks so much for the excellent guide.
I suggest Baja Rom, Jelly 'Beans', or Eclipse. All are top notch roms. Great thing about Safestrap is you can flash all 3 and switch wirt a simple reboot.

Can anyone explain to me how you are supposed to back up the stock rom and then change it to the "not-stock" rom and use a flashable rom as stock? Im confused... sorry noob question probably.

Titanium backup is the best solution for you . It can make a update.zip file of your stock rom . Use Zipsigner for signing update.zip package as a usable form . Thank you

Are the directions in the OP not clear? If not, let me know so I can make them easier to understand.

Make nand bu of stock rom on stock slot. Name it stock rom if u want . Then use slider to wipe (sys, data, cache, dalvik) install cust rom to stock slot, reboot

I've been running Jelly Beans for quite a while in a ROM slot and done quite a bit of customization to it. How can I back this up and put it in my stock ROM slot? Is this possible or do I simply have to wipe the stock ROM slot, flash the ROM, and do all of the customization that I've done all over again?

I'm kinda new here, but you could probably do a backup of the jelly rom slot then restore it into the stock slot. I've done that between slots 1 and 2 so unless the stock slot is different, it should work. I backed up the stock slot so I presume you can restore it.

I would assume the same thing but I want to refrain from assuming so I don't brick anything.

Peruse the safestrap thread. Maybe it is discussed. I seem to recall a thread about restoring stock. It might have been in that forum. Does it matter in terms of using any rom in which slot it is installed? Is there something special about the stick slot? As I said ealier, I am a Note Newbie.
