Peruse the safestrap thread. Maybe it is discussed. I seem to recall a thread about restoring stock. It might have been in that forum. Does it matter in terms of using any rom in which slot it is installed? Is there something special about the stick slot? As I said ealier, I am a Note Newbie.

The Stock slot resides on the internal memory of the phone while the SafeStrap slots are on the SD card. Also, the SafeStrap slots are limited to the amount of memory that you used when you created the slot where as the stock slot gives you access to the full 32GB of internal memory plus all of the SD card.

I think I made a mistake when I said this. The ROM slots are contained within the internal memory but then are only able to see what is contained within that ROM slot. So you have your stock ROM slot which is 32GB in size and you have slot 1-4 ROMs. If you create slot 1 with a total size of data and system for 6GB, you can only see 6GB of data while booting into that ROM but if you go back tot he stock slot you will see all 32GB.

I understand that. But it would be useful if all the slots could be moved onto a large, say 64+mb, external, loading only the selected active slot into internal memory, thus enabling any active slot to use all of the internal memory. Just a curiosity as my present roms have sufficient room to grow within their alloted spaces. Also, my apologies for taking this tread off-topic.

I've been running Jelly Beans for quite a while in a ROM slot and done quite a bit of customization to it. How can I back this up and put it in my stock ROM slot? Is this possible or do I simply have to wipe the stock ROM slot, flash the ROM, and do all of the customization that I've done all over again?
Just backup stick slot (if you want a copy of your stock rom) wipe it, then restore nand of cust beans to stock slot. No worries. Sorry for late response.

Certainly a good point. Drop the suggestion in the Safestrap thread. If Hashcode hasn't already thought of it, it might be an option.

No Problem. Just to be clear, I backup my custom ROM slot with SafeStrap, select stock ROM slot, wipe with options of data, cache, and Dalvik, then restore my custom ROM slot to stock ROM slot with SafeStrap?

When clean wiping I just use the slider in Safestrap, as it is the recommended wipe for clean flashing a rom.

I only choose dalvik, cache and system for flashing a successive build of the same rom (dirty flash)

But you got the basics right,

-back up cust rom
-back up stock rom/slot (opt)
-wipe (using slider) stock slot
-restore cust rom to stock slot
-delete slot 1-4 that prev had cust rom in it
-PROFIT :D

I'm profiting. Thanks man.

Got it finally

Just got a new Note 3 today, Odined to MJE... Kingo wasn't working, multiple computers 100 tries. What finally worked... I found Vroot.

If you search google for vroot 1.7.0.1 and the page is hosted on GSMhosting - I know we don't have a GSM phone but followed the instructions you end up downloading a chinese windows app which effectively roots your phone. I had drivers already installed from samsung so I would do that first. Other specifics, used usb 2.0 cable (this didn't make a difference with Kingo so I doubt it mattered. Anyway the website walks you through it and though it's in Chinese if you follow your instincts as to what to press and follow directions, it works. Then Safestrap and install the open source Superuser as most tutorials suggest. Anyway, root is working, I was about at my wit's end.

Edit: I know this seems really sketchy, but it worked and my antivirus didn't ping. One of the other tutorials suggested that if Kingo doesn't work try Vroot, so it wasn't a shot in the dark. You guys can PM me if you need more pointers I'll try to log in the next few days (I haven't been using this site a whole lot since I broke my GNEX! Happy days!

What seems sketchy is Kingo pushing apps onto the device that have no bearing on the exploit process and can't be located once the process is complete. No one seems to know why the apps are pushed and the developer doesn't respond to requests for clarification. Looks and sounds like malware to me and why I haven't used the method or have root access yet.

Countless thousands have rooted via Kingo. Besides the rumors, how many users have actually reported their device got hacked or their privacy was violated by kingo?

While I fully understand the concern, a high of a number of users rooting dozens of devices with Kingo and no validated reports of nefarious activity related to kingo, I can't help but wonder if maybe there's nothing wrong with kingo...

I have rooted and rerooted a ton of times using kingo. I always and immediately flash Chainfires SuperSU ti overwrite kingis superuser, i delete kingo off the pc & run virus scan,

No issues, no weird calls fom China, and I haven't personally heard or read of one user having malware/privacy/hacked device issues.

It is certainly your device and your decision when rooting your device.

And it's that kind of logic that is why botnets exist... "no one sees anything wrong, so there isn't anything wrong". You're right that it's probably nothing and I'm being overly paranoid, but I have to say I'm a tad concerned at how nonchalant the community is with these apps installed in the exploit process.

All root methods are exploits, there's a reason the community feels nonchalant about Kingo, number of users vs numbercof legit complaints.

I respect each user's level of comfort when it comes to rooting.

OK, I tried to search but I didn't find any results ...

Rooted my Verizon N3 with Kingo no problems ... I trued to flash the SuperUser apk in Safestrap and lost root! Now I can't seem to get root access back ...

EDIT: Weird ... never mind ... I used Root Explore and navigated to system/app. Saw the SU apk was indeed there. Clicked on it and chose to install it ... it installed and all is good!

A buddy of mine had no success with Kingo either. I had an older version of it lying around and he was able to use that successfully. I have no idea why.

Seems like lately Kingo has been hit or miss for root. Vroot is a good alt for those having root issues with Kingo. I've not used vroot but hear good things.

Kingo failed for me like 12 times. So I tried vroot. Easiest ever. They have a (mostly) English version now. Acquire root, dl supersu from the store, update the binary, uninstall the Chinese su. Done.
