Not to sound like a nag; but as easy as it is to flash reputable superSU, why tske any risk leaving the unknown Kingo version hanging around? Just something to think about

As a test, the last time I used Kingo, I didn't install SS, but I did reinstall SuperSU using the option in settings to reinstall from Google Play. I believe that this method is as effective as flashing the zip with no need to install Safestrap recovery if you are only after root privileges.
I do agree that until the Kingo app is properly vetted, that it makes sense to be safe.

Is it possible to get OTA updates once it's rooted and safe strap is installed? I'm planning to leave it stock rooted.
Unless you disable the SDM.apk the phone will still download OTA updates. Whether or not it will install would have a lot to do with what modifications you make to the phone besides rooting. If root is all you do, it is likely (not definite) the update would install and most probably take your root access in the process.
If you make significant modifications to the system (ie. freeze or remove apps) the OTA will fail.
