After using vroot I was left with some Chinese app as well. I just replaced the root with chain fires supersu then found the Chinese app and uninstalled it and had no problem losing root or anything. Backed up stock rom, restored to rom slot 1 in safestrap and flash baja to stock slot...super easy following this guide...and since I wiped system and cleaned up my SD card I'm really not worried about any remnants of the shady rooting methods...maybe on my windows o's a bit worried but it's only on boot camp on my mac mini and only even installed it for this...lmao

Again, just follow the guide, it's very easy...though I personally recommend vroot over kingo due to my experience of kingo not working.

I want to upload a ROM in the stock ROM slot to get back the memory. I followed the directions and backed up the current ROM in the stock ROM slot. I'm a little hesitant because it created 2 backups. TWRP said something to the effect of, it's too big. I've never had a ROM do that in CWM or TWRP. is this common? If there is ever a need to flash back to that, how do you select both files for backup?

Got to thinking that it might be worth coming back to mention a few events that weren't noted in the OP:

1. All Knox 'apps' except for Knox Notification Manager were removed (I froze KNM in Titanium after the root). There seems to have been no consequence from this. I post it only because removal of Knox was not mentioned in the OP.

2. (Clarification): Regarding The Installing Chainfire's SuperSU over Kingo' SuperSU segment in the OP

This ^ was not my experience. An older version of SU was installed (seemed to be stock SU). I upgraded to 1.94 at Google Play. Froze the chinese app and all seems well.

I thought it might be worth mentioning.

Edit: Oh, and something I've noticed since rooting is that messaging no longer compresses an image when attached. It sends it through full sized.

I hated vRoot. It would install junkware. Kingo 1.1.6 was installed and works like a charm. Same problems as before on vRoot, but at least I can understand the SU app.

I used 1.1.6 and it worked 1st time, no problems! Never used Vroot...
Was wondering if you had the link to the version 1.1.6 of Kingoroot, can't seem to find it anywhere. .. Thanks in advance.

I'm having issues with Hyper drive 4.4 using the safe strap. It installs but when I go to boot the system..The screen just stays black. Doesn't even go to splash screen. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong??

Read through the How To Update From JB 4.3 To KK 4.4.2 On Verizon RETAIL NOTE 3 link in my sig, see if there is a step there that you might have missed or not completed.

It happens to us all :) My first go at updating to 4.4 I forgot to flash the NC2 leak rom before booting into DOWNLOAD.. Back to Mje , root, and starting over for me. It happens.

Going over the obvious, is the HD rom you flashed a 4.4 KK based rom? Or is it a 4.3 rom with a 4.4 KK look?

I am going to bet that your issue is within the removal of Safestrap 3.65 and Installing SS 3.72. You'd be surprised how many users are doing the process incorrectly or incompletely.

The Update 4.3 to 4.4 link has a section JUST on the Safestrap switch process, which is important as 3.72 is the ONLY SS that works on KK 4.4 Roms.

Check it out, read the steps, see if anything jumps out at you as being as issue, let me know :D

Not having 3.65 installed is probably your issue.

3.65 is ONLY for 4.3 and you MUST be running 3.65 in order to start the process to KK 4.4 where you end up on 3.72

I see. I will try that. So, if I use that method to get to 4.4 will I lose root??

You need to redo the entire process (about 30 mins if you already have the files downloaded)

Start back at MJE in Odin, reroot, flash any 4.3 cust rom, the follow the steps to update the KK NC2.

Both the ROOT link and UPDATE links are in my sig, as well as any links to files you'll need.

Let me know if you have any questions. It sounds a bit overwhelming, but READ the step first, the perform it, IF you have ANY questions, ASK first, then proceed.

These tutorials are here to make the process virtually painless :D No worries, you'll be up and running KK 4.4 in no time!

Don't forget to hit THANKS and RATE my threads if you found them helpful. It's very appreciated :D
