I used uninstall from the kingo start menu folder and then verified in the control panel uninstall screen. And also deleted what appeared to be an empty folder left over in program files. Any idea why/where a trace of the 1.2.2 would be and how to get rid of it? Somehow it must be lingering for some of us even though we attempt to uninstall
I just uninstalled 1.2.2 (when it stopped working) from control panel, did a virus scan, and had no problems installing and opening 1.1.5 and 1.1.6 both showing their diff versions... Weird

That is weird. I'll try again tonight when I get home. Thanks for the help!
I am having weird issues as well. No matter what version I download to install it comes up as 1.2.2 and fails. Deleted drivers, removed Kingo, rebooted, reinstalled, still failed.

This just worked for me to unroot the other phone the other night.

Maybe kingo is forwarding all their older versions to tbe new app when it checks in with their website, which would suck!

I'll run both 1.1.5 and 1.1.6 tonight and see what I get.

DO NOT accept the update. You will be screwed. You're okay on mje for now. Just get it rooted and stop the update. Everyone here can walk you through the rest of it.

Finally got everything working, but had a few setbacks on the way. First, Kingo 1.2.2 did not work at all for my phone, I finally got root with the older version 1.1.2 (probably the one with malware). The second problem I ran into was during the upgrade to KitKat. When following instructions in this thread I got to the step named: "- Wipe Stock Slot "Swipe To Factory Reset" (I also wiped INT DATA for fresh start)" The link to Safestrap in that thread pointed to 3.65 which only has "Micro SDcard" as an option under advanced wipe, not "INT DATA". ....well I lost 30GB of family photos and music on my external sd card. Why in the world would wiping external sd card be a recovery option?!?!

I'm sorry you hit a few snags, for clarification:

The OP does state that Kingo 1.2 is having issues, and suggests to go with with 1.1.5 / 1.1.6 instead...

FOR ROOT PRIVILEGES- Install KINGO/Vroot
***Kingo 1.2 is having issues Rooting MJE Firmware, Google Kingo 1.1.5 or .6 OR see here, OR use Vroot***

The OP does NOT mention anything about wiping Micro SDcard... If EVER in doubt, ASK! It is not worth losing tons of data or bricking a device moving forward if you are not sure.

- Wipe Stock Slot "Swipe To Factory Reset"[/B] (I also wiped INT DATA for fresh start)

Again I'm sorry you lost data.

FYI, thanks to this thread:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2704299&page=2

I was able to get the Kingo 116 and successfully rooted the first try.
This fixed it for me as well. I uninstalled 1.2.2 through control panel, left the samsung drivers intact, and rooted on the first try. Strange! But thanks for posting!

BTW, I'm running Windows 7 Home even though the OP of this linked thread says it didn't work for them on anything other than XP

Oooo, Not sure on this one. I know prior to KK 4.4, that SS 3.71 was specifically for 64gb and larger sdcards. Not sure with 4.4. Sorry.

That's cool cuz I'm still stock 4.3... just rooted and want to flash a 4.3 rom .I'm on ss 3.65
3.65 and 3.71 should both an you how much space you want dedicated to rom slot once you create it ( if I'm understanding you correctly) . I don't think ss can be utilized on ext storage. You can transfer roms to it if you want to try others in same slot, but that's all I know about it.

No worries, I was able to find a backup of photos on a Box account I forgot I had. First of all, I do realize this recovery, and most likely the option in question, are a port of an earlier version of TWRP, so I don't blame any developers here for overlooking a retarded option which came from another project. More to the point, I was the one retarded enough to click an option in a menu called "wipe" not knowing exactly what would happen lol...

Thank you guys for your hard work on this phone.

If you're on MJE, then you can just root. If you screw things up, you'll learn to Odin to MJE quickly.

I have Kingo 1.1.6 and when it wants to go update, I let it. It's still on 1.1.6 after the update. Once rooted, I don't spend 5 seconds on that MJE. I get SafeStrap going and never come back.
I ended up taking out the SIM card to prevent the OTA while I worked on rooting the phone, Worked great.
