That sucks man! With the talent and experience it shouldn't be too long before one of these wizards figures it out.

Carelessness on my part is all and it cost me big time too. .. all I had to do was wait. ..hell I was on mje with SS 3.65 running smooth as silk. .. an experience I hope no one else has to go through. ... patience is the key trust me.....

Jelly bean which is 4.3. You have 4.4.2 there is a way to retro back to it but not sure how hard or if it ticks Knox which I believe would void the warranty.

double checking

This seems like a pretty friendly thread. I have read through several pages and would just like to get some confirmation for what I think I am reading. So I am really torn between the M8 and the Note3. I have the M8 now and like it. But I really love the screen size of the Note3. I have a few days left to trade in my M8 for the Note3 and am considering it.

But - it looks like 4.3 can be rooted but the latest update to 4.4 cannot be rooted? Is that correct? Thanks.

B*tch of a time rooting

Hey guys,

Wondering if anyone can help me out here.... I'm on 4.3 MJE. Have a fresh Win7 install going from just a few weeks ago... no android drivers installed before. Downloaded the samsung 1.5.33.0 drivers and installed.

ODIN'ed to latest MJE again, and went to root... Kingo not working... even found the proper 1.1.6. Vroot tried to install some chinese program and I *think* i killed it... perhaps I shouldn't have?

Tried kingo 8 times and now and same thing... phone reboots and says "failed". Any insight here? Strange that people are reporting this method working just a day ago...

Would appreciate any help.

Well, gave vroot one more try and picked a different "random" option as I don't read chinese.... it worked. Installed root, then installed safestrap, and then installed chainfires superuser.

Gotta get to 4.4.2 sooner or later.

4.3 & 4.4 can both be rooted on Note 3. If you do decide to go with Note 3, verify Baeband version: MJE still root-able, and update-able to KK 4.4.2. NC4 not rootable (at the moment)...

NC4 is rootable via SafeStrap like NC2 (keeping MJE root), but it's not recommended because NC4 bootloader is incremented and you can't roll back to NC2/MJE (i.e., if you lost the root for some reason, you'll probably wait for a long time). Moreover, the leaked NC2 bootloader has promising features as stated here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2727876.

If a device comes with NC4 can be rooted, SS installed, and cust 4.4 rom flashed: why are users who took the OTA to NCA being told they're outta luck?

It's late, I had a long weekend, and maybe I'm just confused :D

NC4/NC2 can be rooted NOW only when upgrading from MJE. NC2 is downgradable to MJE (thanks to the leaked firmware), and NC4 is not (incremented bootloader). If you're on NC4––either by upgrading from MJE or it comes with NC4––, you're out of luck for now. SS requires ROOT access to install recovery (it's impossible to have SS installed without having root). i.e., to install SS recovery, you should be already rooted and that's why we keep MJE root by flashing a rooted NC2 ROM in SS before upgrading the firmware

I'm doing this for a friend and after installing safestrap rebooting all we see is the Samsung slash screen and the word custom with an unlock symbol. There are no options. It just reboots after ten seconds on that screen. Help?

Edit: got it working. Uninstalled and reinstalled and it worked.

More info is required! are you on MJE, NC2, or NC4?, which version of SS did you install?

I'm Boned until the time being then. Didn't see that my desktop was updating my phone and alas, N900VVRUCNC4 4.4.2.

Main things I lost were Wanam tweaks that I liked and it's boot manager. I wouldn't mind flashing back to an older rom. But the thing that will annoy me the most with it more than being unrooted is the new way FB changed it's app layout, lol.

Don't worry! you can't roll back to any older ROM from NC4 :D Enjoy the new FB layout :)

Thank you for the information.

And thanks also to the other gentlemen that replied. I'm on Tapatalk so I didn't multi-quote.

I hit the thanks button though.

Wow! az... I'm sorry. ..I can't wait. .. think I will sell this Note 3 that i screwed up with OTA update and just buy one that has stock MJE.

Then I'm back in the game. ... it will cost me a few coins but hey one must pay for his mistakes. Gonna give it another week to see what the devs comes up with before I make my decision. ..
