***How To ROOT 4.3 & NC4 OTA, Install Recovery & Roms - Verizon RETAIL Note 3***

For my understanding, flashing a custom ROM with Safestrap's TWRP over the stock ROM partition does not trip the Knox flag - is that right??
Flash away without worry. You'll get a WARNING when flashing stock slot, ignore it. Just to be sure, rom slots have partitions. You're flashing cust rom to a slot, not a partition per se. Remember, 4.3 use SS 3.65 and all slots... 4.4 use ONLY SS 3.72 and INLY stock slot.

New to this forum and to root (GREEN)! I have searched and searched and could not find an answer, so forgive me if I missed it somewhere. I have been considering root to avoid kitkat crippling my SD card as I use my phone mostly for photo editing, sharing, etc. The problem is, while I was researching root info KitKat was pushed to my phone. I have not installed it... in fact I have not postponed it either, I have always used the back button to remove the nag screen, but I'm over that!! So my questions are:

1) am I okay to root even though kitkat downloaded?
2) if I root will that disable the nag screen and prevent forced update or must I do more?
3) will root alone allow me continued use of the SD card as I know it on 4.3 or must I use a custom ROM vs, stock, and if so, any recommendation?

Thanks in advance!

Haven't noticed any difference with my SD card on Kitkat nc4. As to the others.

1. Yes you can root with it downloaded as long as you don't install it.
2. Root will not disable the nag screen. And it won't force the update on you either.

I'm not clear, sorry... are you saying there is no way to disable the nag screen?

OTA Nag Screen

Well it's already downloaded and from what I've read it will install itself eventually, whether you postpone it or not, which is why I didn't use the "install later" but rather backed out, hoping that would buy me more time to research rooting. Not sure what the point would be of rooting if I still have to live with the nag screen popping up multiple times a day...

Thanks for trying ;)

**Edit: For those reading this and wondering the same thing, found info elsewhere.
YES the nag screen and download can be disabled after root -- I used Titanium Backup to freeze SDM 1.0 and LocalFOTA... No more nag screen, YAY!

Why run MJE

Can you tell me why its so important to be running MJE before rooting? I'm guessing this is the firmware known as MJE on your phone. I have stock android 4.3 on Verizon Galaxy Note 3 so not sure which firmware I'm running. But your guide to rooting says I need to run MJE tar file before rooting? Why is that, it sounds like I can just root using KINGO without having to do MJE tar so if you can please explain why it's required I would appreciate it. Or let me know what the advantage is here.
keep in mind, I don't know too much about the different firmwares, that's why I'm asking.
Thanks,

I could be wrong about this bit I believe they are using it as a base for where to move ahead. Easier to say start from here noted of trying t deal with each update that is out there. Main thing is don't install Ota Kitkat as this is unrootable at this time.

Thanks,
Because the devs with the brilliant minds and experience said you need to be on MJE. I honestly don't know why, but I trust those who said do it :D

Sorry for the question my friend just ask me, this doesn't work with 4.4.2? If it won't, is there a way to root on 4.4.2 for her N900V?
If you're talking about going from a rooted or unrooted 4.3 rom to the leaked 4.4.2 KK from BeansTown106, yes you can. Root first using this guide, then see the 'Update 4.3 to 4.4.2' link in my sig.

If you're friend is on the OFFICIAL 4.4.2 KK OTA from VZW, this method WILL NOT work.

Ya but what I'm concerned about is I want to know what firmware do I currently have??
And am I safe to install MJE on a Verizon Galaxy Note 3?

Also what Odin flashable Modem am I currently on, I found this list of all the firmwares in this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524572

There was a warning message "Not to accept any OTA from Verizon and says NC2 is the build we want to be on."
So I'm trying to find out if devs recommend to install MJE on all stock variants of Note 3 or do certain Note3's already have MJE's on them? Including the correct Modem?

MJE I believe was the default for the note 3 when it was shipped. If you go to settings and about phone and look at build version. If it says MJE then cool if nc2 even better. If nc4 you're out of luck.

You can odin MJE tar on any retail vzw note 3. Then you follow the links in my sig to get 4.3 root, then upgrade to 4.4 KK.

Follow the links included in each thread, no worries.

All req firmware, modem, etc included in mje tar, and nc2 leaked 4.4.2.

I read your detail instructions for how to install files using ODIN. Do you have to perform a factory reset wiping entire phone or is that optional? I don't want to wipe entire phone after installing MJE unless I have to. Please let me know.

One more thing. What's the advantage of flashing ROMS? And after reading the forum it sounds like Safestrap helps you install ROMS?

It sounds like after rooting you're suppose to install the leaked version of 4.4.2 which is already rooted right? I'm assuming NC2 is built into the leaked 4.4.2.

Thanks for your help!
