Followed the steps as posted took about 10 mins to do everything. Installed the app, it downloaded drivers for the phone. Hit ok and install when prompted on the phone, reboot. Root. It already had superSU on it, but i flashed the latest using the method mentioned in the post. Biggest surprise is that my phone has the "unlock" icon when it reboots and it says "custom" right at the Note 3 start up screen. Is that supposed to be there?Thought this just rooted, not unlocked?

for anyone that has done this method.... did you install "mtkcamera" and "diaggetroot" ?? These come up after pressing the green root button on Kingo. I didnt know what to do so i let my phone sit when the prompts were up. I dont know why but kingo put my phone in a bootloop for some reason until I pulled my USB cable.

I checked odin and my knox was not tripped.

I googled them and there are people saying its malware, is this true?

Am i supposed to install these? it was not mentioned in the original post at all.

There was a response from kingo regarding those accusations. I don't think it's a huge concern. Just delete the program from your pc and update your root access to chainfire SuperSU.

Mine also shows unlocked, but it means rooted, not unlocked bootloader...

I've read the same concerns on these files. Delete kingo app from your pc (run anti-virus /malware scan), install trusted superSU, and enjoy. Of the untold thousands of people who have rooted using Kingo, I haven't read a single substantiated account of anything nefarious related to kingo app.

Taking the easy, quick steps to remove any possible 'leftovers' from Kingo, and keeping an eye out for anything weird is all you can do.

Which ROM is yours?

I'd gladly add it... it's not like I'm stalking you... you'd freak if ten seconds after you publish your rom, I had it ADDED to my thread!

Post it and I'll add it :D
Hahha. I'm just kidding. I've seen weirder.

-I went to kingo site (Google it, no kingo links allowed on XDA) and downloaded their program (to put on your desktop)

- install kingo to your pc

-follow instructions in kingo app

-make sure you have (unknown sources) checked in SECURITY

-make sure you have (usb debugging) checked in DEVELOPER OPTIONS

-I set my display to not time out for 10 minutes after I failed to root the first three times with kingo thinking maybe the screen timing out was causing an issue, the fourth time was flawless (not sure if the display timeout was it or not)..

try these steps, let me know how it works out!
If you have a Passcode of ANY kind, you need to set screen timeout to 10 minutes.

Kingo needs to install a few apps to get the root properly.

You also need your device unlocked to accept the installation of the root apps.

I did it like 5 times and it kept failing, then I set screen timeout to 10 minutes and then I was getting the popups to install the root apps.

After about 2 more times it finally worked.

Since your post is on the front page, can you edit it to include some of the information to other users?

Great catch! I realized this may have been the problem and why I needed three attempts to root with Kingo, but I never remembered to update the OP... Thanks again!

I come from LG Spectrum (they now have KitKat) and know only a bit about rooting and flashing, but completely noob with Note 3 and Knox.

I just want to root (no flashing ROMs, just to freeze apps and block ads) AND maintain warranty. I have following questions:

Will rooting with Kingo change the following in ODIN mode?:
A. Current Binary: Samsung Official
B. System Status: Official
I do know that Kingo keeps 0x0 in warranty void section (correct?)

I am on MJ7 and have not taken OTA yet.

Thanks in advance.

I've used kingo several times, no changes at all in odin screen. Both knox settings have always been 0x0...

Hehe. My phone got stuck in boot loop so I went back and re-read through your post and noticed that I was credited for contributing!! Boo yeah~! Thank you, sir for the props.

Currently in the process of re-configuring B5 at the moment on JE no less! I was a bit nervous while the phone was boot looping, but opted to re-boot the PC and pull the battery. Not sure which of the factors made it stick, but hi ho, hi ho, back to customization we go!!

Getting the details handled on my new note3

Thanks to all of you for your most generous help on this site.

Where I am so far is: I got it out of the box, took the first OTA to MJ7, rooted it with Kingo just fine (after figuring out to get it into developer mode with the several quick button pushes on that certain greyed box in the 'about phone' info). That step is very well hidden, and I had to Google it to get back to the right forum info post on that subject. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494996

And setting the phone to stay on as long as it was externally powered handles that problem with timeout during Kingo install.

So then I was in more familiar territory.

Installed and updated SuperSU, then installed Safestrap. Got the latest Beans download, odexed (is the deodexed better?) checked its md5, and have that zip file sitting on my SD card.

Haven't taken the step to go through the Safestrap process just yet to install it. Catching my breath.

AND I am confused and worried about these items:

First, my Titanium Backup Pro does NOT think the phone is rooted, even though Rootchecker does, and so does Adfree. I unrooted and rerooted with Kingo, but still no joy. Titanium DOES NOT WORK, "NO ROOT".

Second, Verizon wanted to give me that second update this morning, and could not do so. I unrooted and tried again,

Did not work.

Is that because of Safestrap sitting there? Do I need it to uninstall it to get that OTA? Do I need that OTA installed before I go to Beans so it has a failsafe genuine Verizon backup with all the new stuff installed that matches the new Beans? Can I do it some other way?

I am willing to go the last mile and put the new beans on. But need advice and guidance about the Titanium and OTA update issues first.

Thanks!

Make a backup if you haven't already.

Follow the link to flash MJE tar file via Odin. This will get you to absolute most recent STOCK OEM. Then follow the rooting, safestrap, etc steps.

Let me know how that goes.
