I downloaded the JE tar located here:

http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23269279319196106

Installed it via Odin [I used v3.09]. After the installation is complete, your phone will be updated directly from J7 to JE with no OTA needed.

Then you do the whole Kingo to get Root. Followed by Flashing Chainfires SU file to get rid of the files Kingo installs [MTKCamera and something else]

Install SafeStrap via APK for SafeStrapping awesomeness then,.....off to happy ROM flashing!

az_biker's original post has all the links/info you need! So far,....so good. *knock on wood*

Sorry if its been asked but if we set superuser into survival mode would it withstand Odin and not require kingo? Just wondering thanks!
The results are split. Some are having success, some are not... flashing the MJE tar in odin is the most effective way to get the MJE update. ..

Sorry to ask here but figured if it was in the wrong place you guys would let me know. I was attempting to install a rom on my verizon note 3. I followed all the steps to flash in stock slot except I kept slot one loaded with my working backup. I am afraid that I misunderstood and did not fully wipe the stock slot:( I hope that is no the case!!! but now phone just freezes at the Samsung Galaxy note 3 screen. Did I totally screw myself. Just paid full retail and I feel so dumb. I have used SS on my xt912 and never had problems.

Can anyone help?

Sorry again if this is in the wrong place

P.S. trying to flash Jelly Beans

I believe that if you flash the .tar via Odin, everything is going to disappear and you're going to be left with and updated Stock JE installation.

Once you get Root/SS installed again, you could restore your previous working backup if you saved it you an external SD card or something,...else you might have to re-set everything up again.

Not a bad thing persay since you'd start with a clean slate, and we ALL download a bunch of apps that we don't use,...

FYI, there's a setting when you're syncing your phone with Google that it asks you about backing up/restoring to your Google Play account. I check those boxes and all the apps that I previously installed automatically start re-downloading,...it's just a matter of re-setting up my homescreens,

Thank you. I will try that, we have bad net here so it will take forever to get the tar. I am not worried about apps haven't set the phone up because I have been playing with root and stuff. I think I know what I did now. I wiped the stock slot but did not activate it and then flashed over the backup that I tested. Do you still think odin and the tar will help? I feel so dumb and I know there is not support for dirty flash but please know that was not my intent!!

Hctimin is correct. Flash MJE tar, start fresh, restore mj7 backup if you want (but I'd just flash Beans Build 5 totally based on MJE update- see his link in OP near bottom.)

No worries at all. It's all about learning.

If you look at az_biker's post immediately above, you'll see that once you flash the JE tar file, you're pretty much back at stock.

All SS slots, previous flashes, and root are gone, so it's like you have a brand new phone,..to re-root, and re-Safestrap to make more slots, then flash ROMs again. It's like Christmas came early :)

Thanks to all of you for your most generous help on this site.

Where I am so far is: I got it out of the box, took the first OTA to MJ7........
........I am willing to go the last mile and put the new beans on. But need advice and guidance about the Titanium and OTA update issues first.

Thanks!
Haven't heard from you. How's youf progress with flashing the MJE tar and all?

Helpppppppppppppp

I have downloaded the kingo app on my pc, rooted, downloaded safestrap, installed chainfire's SU update to replace the kingo su and I believe I am rooted. I get the safestrap 10sec screen when I reboot, and my main goal is to get wifi tether working. Unfortunately it wont work and it's constantly questioning if I am rooted.

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction for this? I'm on the newest update, got my phone about 2 days ago and I am only missing activating my wireless hotspot (without paying an extra 30$)

Thanks.

Activating the hotspot on rooted stock using the work around does not work anymore on mje. It fails every time. And I'm not gonna pay $30 for a feature that should be free.

If I understand correctly, you're rooted, installed safestrap, and have either the stock of custom rom installed, correct?

Are you on MI9, MJ7, or MJE?

If running custom rom what rom is it? IIRC some roms were losing Wi-Fi tethering and Hotspot. You'll have to check the individual threads to see what the traffic is for that particular thread. Again, IIRC, Beans Build 5 still has wifi tether and hotspot. I don't use either, but I believe they are still working in Build 5 (which is a MJE build, so you'll need to be running MJE baseband)...

Let me know what's up!

I did a thread search on "Hot Spot not working", "hot spot" "Hotspot" in Beans build 5 thread, as well as browsed over the last 20 or so pages since Build 5 (MJE based) dropped, and I didn't see any reports of broken Hotspot.

Could I have missed them? Sure. But I am on the thread quite a bit daily and don't recall users complaining about broken hotspot.

I do know a few other rom threads had traffic about broken wifi tethering and hotspot, but I mainly keep up with Beans.

Not trying to argue, just highlighting the possibility that Beans 5 might not break hotspot...I don't use it, so it is a non-issue for me.
