Hey pal I actually have a life and don't read through 52 pages of a thread. Back the eff off and chill. Thank you.

Yet you expect someone else to spoon feed you? How about -you- try backing the hell off and chilling? No one here gives a damn about your problem except you. Do something to help yourself or live with the problem.

I expect someone that's not a fatard like you to give me a quick answer like I help people when I can. Have a nice day. :)

Well, whistle in the wind, little boy; I doubt many will be willing to help someone with your attitude problem.

Someone answered my couple word question above. Bloody hell all I did was ask a quick question. Its my girlfriends tablet, I don't even have the tablet. Your attitude towards a simple question is ridiculous. Have a cup of tea for me.

Good Evening from the uk

earlier on today a bunch of devs managed to actually root this tablet using a modified version of gingerbreak

below is the walkthrough of how to root this device

1. make sure usb debugging is turned on and unknown sources is selected
2. have a micro sd card inserted and turn the tablet on portrait and lock it with the switch to fix it in portrait
3. download and execute the attached apk. (i had to download from my comp and transfer to the tablet for it to work)
4. once the apk is installed run the root procedure within the app which was installed
5. wait and you will receive full root access

Edit to add original dev and thread

A BIG BIG thank you to monki-magic who provided the modified apk and the original thread is

I have an A500 the came with Android 4.0.3. I followed the above instructions but when I choose "root" from the Ginger Break menu, the box comes up saying the tab will reboot when the app succeeds. But it just sits there. I made sure no other apps were running.

I followed these instructions
Code:
How to:
1. The tablet should be already upgraded to stock ICS for A50x (or stock ICS A10x/A510 for other tablets).
2. Download this archive on the computer. Unpack it to any place.
3, On a tablet: "Settings" -> "Applications" -> "Development" -> "USB debugging" switch on.
4. Сonnect the tablet to the computer (Before connection it is recommended to update the driver for a tablet from here: A10x, A50x, A510).
5. Open the directory with the unpacked archive. Execute file: for windows - runit-win.bat; for Linux - runit-linux.sh.
The root is received!
It pushes four files and then gets this error
Code:
Unable to chmod /data/local/tmp/mempodroid: No such file or directory
remote object '/data/local/tmp/mempodroid' does not exist
 The file "mempodroid" isn't created
-
Not getting root! :<
-
Error!
-
Press any key.

When I use "Root Browser" to check the files on the A500, there is nothing in the /data folder.

edit: I checked in "Device Manager" and the ADB driver is properly installed on the Win 7 box.

Bah!! Humbug!!! Nothing wants to work on the )(&(*)&)(*& tablet!! I tried running the A500 Manager to get the tablets serial number and/or Bootmanager version. Both options caused "not found" errors. And when I hold the vol- button when powering on, the Android "man" comes up with an ! mark and doesn't enter "recovery".

If device not found its a driver issue. Uninstall the acer drivers reboot and reinstall. Also make sure you have the android sdk installed. Theres a mini zip u can use in the root guide

Drivers are working fine. It is apparently the file or files that have the info on the serial number and bootloader version that aren't there or have been named differently. It's past my bedtime now but I'll copy error messages and post them tomorrow.

You posted an error of "not found" wot this means is there is no communication between yr pc and yr tab. There are 2 reasons for this drivers or faulty cable. Nothing will work until u resolve this issue. There's an indepth guide on correct driver installation at the bottom of the first post .
Edit:
....of the cpuid guide in my sig

If a file doesn't exist, it can't be found no matter how good the cabling and drivers are. The tablet is communicating with Win7 box via the drivers and cabling. I can read the files on the tablet.

I'm referring to yr post quoted first above....if a500 manager reports device not found then it most certainly is a communication error.

Throw it in apx mode and run nvflash manually - its a darn site easier than mucking about with the tools.
Good luck with it. Its new years eve here and its time to chillax Woohoo

To root under 3.2, you can use timmyDean's method from XDA.
Probably better to wait for ICS at this point.

I have to go cut the grass before I start playing with my A5 again. Can you guys tell the benefits of rooting so far? another forum mentioned deleting bloatware and freezing apps that hog resources/battery life.

    From http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Why_Root

    What Does Root Give Me?

    1. Full control over your system
    2. Ability to alter system files. You can replace many parts of the "Android Core" with this including:
    o Themes
o Core apps (maps, calendar, clock etc)
    o Recovery image
    o Bootloader
o Toolbox (linux binary that lets you execute simple linux commands like "ls") can be replaced with Busybox (slightly better option)
    o Boot images
    o Add linux binaries
    3. Run special apps that need more control over the system
o SuperUser (lets you approve or deny the use of root access to any program)
o Task Manager For Root (Lets you kill apps that you otherwise could not kill)
o Tether apps (like the one found at [android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com])
<there are more but I cannot think of any right now>
    4. Backup your system
o You can make a folder on your sdcard and backup all of your .apk files to your sdcard (helps if an author decides to "upgrade" you to a version that requires you to pay to use the version you just had)
    5. Relocate your (browser/maps/market) cache to your /sdcard
    6. Relocate your installed applications to your /sdcard
    7. Reboot your phone from the terminal app easily (su <enter> reboot <enter>)
