This video is confusing, he goes on to say its for all Pie firmwares, but then says its only for the 2017 model. So what is it, for all shield tv devices or just the 2017 model? Will this work on 2015 model with Pie and 8.0.1?

Settings > Device Preferences > About. This is of course if you are at least on the last few updates. It should list the model number then just use Google.

If you are on the latest hotfix image, you are on the same as 8.0.1.
It's the same build.

If you flash the Recovery image 8.0.0 you should get the update to 8.0.1

Doesn't work on Shield TV 16GB 2015 model running 8.0.1.
Tried the newest Magisk 20.0 also - no luck.

I just flashed stock, and you're right, I did update to 8.0.1 but after rooting, WiFi won't turn on

Hmm, that's weird.
That should be one of the things that are actually fixed in 8.0.1.
Do you have any chance to test with a ethernet cable?

Ethernet cable works, but when I turn the Ethernet off I can't restart wifi

You might need to do a factory reset to see if that fixes it.
You can use something like titanium backup to backup your apps and settings

I ran flash-all.sh, ran fastboot -w, let ii upgrade to 8.0.1 but didn't root and still WiFi won't start

Can you by any chance post an image of it?
And you network settings.

Else you might need to contact nvidia customer support http://www.nvidia.com/nvcc
I tried and search on their forum and could not find anyone with your issue on 8.0.1

Wierd, I just reflash the dev image I was on before and WiFi works. I think I'll stop on this, thank anyway

I actually do think that the dev image contains the latest hotfix though, which makes it the same as 8.0.1.
You can check this in the about section on the shield, down in the bottom "SHIELD Android TV SW Version"
type the numbers here
