How To Guide How to ROOT Fold 4 [UPDATED - ANDROID 13 WORKS]

So I have the Z Fold4 SM-F936U1 - XAA this is the unlocked US version and there is no "OEM Unlocking" after Developer options are enabled. Does this root method require an unlocked bootloader? I would assume so if flashing modified firmware is necessary?

I take it the US models and users will need to wait for a different method?

Seems to be the case. So I was also wondering if you have to have the bootloader unlocked to flash firmware through Odin. And can you flash the EU firmware onto an American AT&T version with Odin, is it even worth it? I've wanted to see how Android 13 is.. Ive pretty much only rooted OnePlus phones.

you have to first do the initial setup and connect to a wifi port and then you have the oem unlock option

this is strange. i do not understand this.

i would try to do a factory reset, then do the initial setup, connect to wifi and look again in dev options

Time for Android 13 update, fresh install for me with root.
Little effort to write down my steps (hope it helps somebody)

Work in progress for me,
I've writen down the steps for myself, hopefully it will work.
I'll update this post and edit first one.
I skipped the steps that where not needed, i was on my already rooted phone developer, oem unluck.
See first posts how to do that basic steps (not possible on all phone's!).

- In short the steps i used:
1: Download file (i used FRIJA this time) - XDA - GIFTHUB -
2: Unpacked the file - 7-ZIP
3: Backup everything i want with Migrate - PLAY STORE LINK - XDA -
4: Copied the backup files to my computer to be very safe - with USB cable
5: copied the AP file to my phone - with USB cable
6: patched the file with magisk and copied it back to computer - GIFTHUB -
7: Reset my phone in (i've got everything prepared and a good backup, no stuff left). - On phone action in settings -
8: Setup phone and enabled developer options and usb debugging (needed for Odin)
9: rebooted phone in download mode (ADB: adb reboot download)
10: Flash the files with Odin - HOMEPAGE -
- I wanted a full wipe so is used the CSC_OXM_F936B.... file
- If you want to keep data use the HOME_CSC_OXM_F936B... instead
- Beware, i've NOT tested a update instead of clean install but that is what i read in other posts!
Please comment if the HOME_CSC_OXM_F936B... method works for you

My phone is clean, uptodate and rooted
13: Copied my backup files back and restore some apps what i want.

It gave some error on file size, i edited options in Migrate and will retry.
This time i make migrate helper only backup.
Again error, i left some apps and make smaller backups (not all apps at the same time now).
Working by creating backups from 20 till 30 apps a time. Took long time, but better safe then sorry.

F936N unlock bootloader will lock the camera。Please how to solve this problem​

I have the same model and can confirm I have the same issue. Even with Android 13. Is there a way to fix / work around this? I am hopeless.

I wish i could, i don't know the solution. I think you need a special tool or something flashable in twrp. Once i know more i'll post it.

Confirmed that unlocking the bootloader on a F936N will stop the camera from working.

Sure:
- Open magisk
- Choose install
- Select and Patch a File
Choose your AP file here and Magisk will do the magic.

Hey guys, I'm completely new when it comes to the rooting scene. I've been watching this thread ever since I bought my Fold 4. Unfortunately, I have the SM-F936U model
Did anyone ever find a method to root it?

- Choose install
- Select and Patch a File
Choose your AP file here and Magisk will do the magic.

Thank you for trying to help and sorry for my delay.

As I see it, I have to patch the ROM file(s) with the Magisk-v25.2.apk before injecting it in the phone via Odin. But the Magisk .apk file is not executable on a computer. Hence, my question: How do I do that. How can I
"- Open magisk
- Choose install" ?

This is the only thing I don't understand and don't know how to do on your well detailed tutorial.
