I'm in Japan at the moment and came upon an SM-F936J (sticker on back) or SM-F936JAP (system info) at an Au booth of an electronics store. Since this model isn't listed in this thread, any idea if this is unlockable? What about using it in the US? Looking for any info on what this model actually is/does.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4
I see max vote on poll are : no I don't want to root (I'm in lol)

There's not so much interest to root (after many years with twrp/supersu/magisk on s7/10/20)

Only thing I miss is csc features module (but i move to India csc to get call recording/hiya/samsung pass)

With adb tool I debloated as I want, installed good lock, this phone is awesome ; )

I finally found the time to root my Fold 4 today lol.

It's rooted with the latest version of Android 13 available for the phone.

I deleted all the useless system apps, services, as well as removing all the Google and Samsung stuff! (This was the main reason why I wanted to have my Fold rooted...)

I just had a hard time removing the "Access Denied" popup (Which is not mentioned in this tutorial) but after being rooted I deleted the digital key of Samsung and the popup was gone! :)

Thanks again for the tutorial brother!

what model do you have of z fold 4 and what procedure did you do?

My model is SM-F936B/DS. As for the procedure I followed the one from the first page of this thread. There's only 2 things I did different:

1st: After I flashed the phone I noticed that Magisk wasn't present so I had to reinstall Magisk with the apk.

Once my phone detected it and I opened it. It kept going the way it was supposed to and it rebooted after opening it.

2nd: After I flashed my phone and it was time to set it up I kept having a popup every 2-3 minutes saying "access denied". It kept appearing even after I finished to setup my phone (See screenshot attached).

So I went ahead and with root I deleted the system app of the Digital Key from Samsung and no more pop-up :).

Hope this help..

Before I flashed it I wasn't sure of the firmware to use. Maybe you didn't download the right one ?

Example, I bought the phone in France. Whenever I was going on the website to download the firmware it asked me which country to choose. For France I only had 2 options (BOG or SFR). The thing is that BOG = Bouygues and SFR = Another carrier like Bouygues.

However, I bought my phone unlocked in a store. So none of those 2 firmwares would've been per say "good" to my phone.

So I looked around and I saw 2 other firmwares for Europe (EUX and EUY). After checking my phone I noticed that I had EUX. From what I understand EUY is almost like EUX with a few difference (Perhaps the fact that it's unlocked but from a carrier... ?).

Did you buy your phone from a store unlocked or from a carrier ? And if from a carrier was it unlocked ?

I kept my patched image that I used to flash my phone with the entire firmware (latest one). I could zip it and upload it somewere for you to try it and see if it works on yours if your phone is in the same condition as mine...

Edit: I could also attached the Odin and the drivers I used to flash the firmware as well as the Magisk APK. Perhaps it's a problem linked with your drivers and Odin...?

Time for Android 13 update, fresh install for me with root.
Backup and restoring apps, much work but it works and is worth it for me.
Little effort to write down my steps (hope it helps somebody).
    See post 73
    2022_8_8_12_6_11_257.jpg

    First things first:

    - This DOES NOT work on all models:
The US (and maybe more models) do NOT allow root.
Only the B, N, and /DS models are rootable at the moment.

    - Also there are known issues with Samsung Health and Gear (connecting watch)
    - See second post for F.A.Q.!

I was able to root my Fold 4 and under here are the steps.
I hope it make sense and otherwise i will answer questions/try to help.

    Steps in short:
    - Enable Developer Mode (on phone action).
    - OEM unlock (on phone action).
    - note the software version.
    - Download needed firmware.
    - Patch AP in Magisk (on phone action).
    - Finish OEM unlock in Download mode (this will RESET the device)
    - Setup phone again and connect wifi (that's important i guess).
    - Flash patched AP with Odin

Steps with more explanation and screenshots:

    - Enable Developer mode (on phone action)
Navigate to Settings > About device > Software information >
Click on Build number (7 times) until you see a message that says: You are now a developer!
    one-ui-developer-mode4.jpg

    - OEM unlock (on phone action)
Navigate to Settings > Developer Options (at the Bottom) Find OEM unlock and toggle it to on.
If this option is not there then probaly your phone cannot be rooted (see second post)
    1666691373282.png

    - note the software version:
Navigate to Settings > About device > Software information > Software Version.
Example (bold is what is needed):
    SSOAMC_SM-F936B_OXM_EUX_12_0045
    EUX/-/EUX/EUX

    - Download needed firmware:
    https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-F936B/ (I downloaded from here)
    https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-z-fold-4/firmware/
    https://samfrew.com/model/SM-F936B/

    - Patch AP in Magisk (on phone action)
Download and install Magisk on your phone:
    https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/latest
Copy the AP file to your phone example:
    AP_F936BXXU1AVGA_F936BXXU1AVGA_MQB54005121_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT_meta_OS12.tar.md5
to phone, patched file in Magisk and choose the AP file.
    magisk_patched-25200_KYFoy.tar is created.
Copy this file back to computer next to the other firmware files.

Now you've got everything and you can start the proces:

    - Finish OEM unlock in Download mode (this will RESET the device!)
This was hard to do; i hope the instructions are do-able, please comment.
power off, hold volume up&down, connect USB cable to PC.
the screen is dark and hard to read.
HOLD volume up key to unlock bootloader and press volume up again to confirm.
    bootloader-unlock-2021.jpg

    - Setup phone again and connect wifi (that's important i guess).
After finishing the setup check under developer options or bootloader unlocked is on and greyed out.

    - Flash patched AP with Odin
I flashed the whole firmware (could be usefull with new samsung updates), took about 4 minutes:
    BL
AP (patched file) <- i guess only this one was needed.
    CP
    CSC

    - Setup the phone, install Magisk and check.
After finishing the setup, install Magisk, it will do some last finishing setup (and reboot) and you've got root!
My phone is rooted, LSPosed Zygisk also working without any problem.

FAQ: got questions? ask them in this thread and it it make sense i'll edit this post

    - Can all modeld be rooted? No, this doesn't work on all models (as stated here and some more info here):
    SM-F936U(/1) - US model - Unrootable
    SM-F936W - Canadian model - Unrootable
SM-F936B EUX - European model - Rootable (my telephone)
    SM-F936N - South Korean model - Rootable
    SM-F936B(/DS) - Global model - Rootable***
***B models purchased in UK are not guaranteed to get an unlocked bootloader due to brexit as noted by user 白い熊 and confirmed by kaos_king

The global model has the bands most similar to the American one. The south Korean model doesn't use the same 5G bands used in america. The only models that can be found on ebay are are U and N.
Discussing is happening in the other thread from page 3 there's more information.

More info/questions? please post here and i will edit this post if needed

    - Can i update my Fold 4 after root?
    :
    Automatic updates will not work!
You can however download new firmware and keep your data: see pvillasuso his post
in this thread: Update and keep root and data
Grab your latest firmware , get the AP file and patch it with your magisk app
Then Odin flash the full firmware , using the AP magisk patchfile @ AP Tab
Use CSC_HOME file @ CSC Tab ( to keep all your data and actual setup )
Done > Updated with root + data + setup

    - Any known problems with device after rooting it?:
First off all rooting can have his downsides, think about global things like banking apps not working.
Besides that; Not many Fold 4 users are rooted yet i guess, so it's possible there will come known issues.
    For now:

    - Gear WearAble is NOT working correctly (my buds work, my watch keeps pairing).

    - Samsung Health is NOT working correctly (error on opening)
FIX: Version from here: https://adil.hanney.org/SamsungAppsPatcher/ is working fine.

    - Camera's are working fine as far as i know for now.

More info/questions? please post here and i will edit this post if needed

Can anyone confirm if SafetyNet passes?
Haven't rooted in a while. And want to check the status of it.
    Hi,
    Sorry i'm not that active.
My fold 4 is broken :/
The big screen but it still works...
I still root and update :)
    Safetynet is fine for me:

    - Magisk
    - Universal SafetyNet Fix
    - YASNAC (Yet Another Safety Net Attestation Checker)

Let me know if you need links or something (you'll find them here on xda)

Here's my post for a VERY DETAILED WALKTHROUGH how to do it on a Samsung Tab S8. It's the same procedure on the Fold 4.
