make sure you are using a version of twrp that is for 4.4.2 http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/201

you might also consider the recovery I am using Philz (the link is in my signature)

I've been rooting android phones for ages. I never seen the need to root my Note 3. I want to root it now so I can use it as a hot spot when in desperation for wifi and nothing is available. I have tried twice, two different methods to flash my phone with Odin and both have resulted in a wonderful soft brick where I had to go to a Samsung Kiosk at a Best Buy and play dumb to get my phone back. Can someone assist me in this. Im on stock NC5 firmware. Everything I use Odin to flash either a CF-Auto root it fails and bricks and even trying to flash the latest version of TWRP same result

Disregard this, I didnt look deep enough. The TowelRoot method worked on my Note 3 on NC5!!! Confirmed with CF SU app

Hit the original development forum, there is CM11 there for the taking in its pure form, unalloyed by the baser metals of compounded features.

To update to NC5(D) via one-click go here

To update to NC5 via Odin go here

There is one more option here

I hope that helps.

Good luck
Awesome. If I go with the NC5(D) via one-click is that going to put me on the newer update? I don't want to restore my phone and its already rooted ton of content.

Thanks!

You have to be running kitkat according the thread.

from the OP:
"Before proceeding please verify that you are already on either the NC5 or NC5D builds (NAB and NABD should also work). If you are, feel free to proceed. If you are not DO NOT proceed, you will brick your device."

what is the procedure for rooting an NC5 sprint note 3? ie the safest best procedured? OP is from 2013 so clearly not for NC5 I would think. ??

I just went through a hell of a hassle with insurance replacing my note 3 (stolen - insurance company was great just took time) don't want to screw it up on day 1 :)

I used the steps outlined in the op and rooted having nc5 on my phone. There is an new method called towel that has come out recently I can't comment on it as I didn't use it.

Search for my previous post in this thread, I outlined what I did too root nc5.

I'd do it but I'm on my phone right now.

Good luck

Paranoid noob here. Just bought a note 3 a few days ago and needed my hotspot back. 4.4.2 w/ NC5. Towelroot worked in about 20 seconds. I didn't even reinstall root checker I just popped wifi tether router back on from the appstore and hotspot is back up and running so I know I'm rooted.:good:
