this is something I was also curious about. several kingo threads shut down "until further notice and investigation" several months ago?
i was under the impression that once I install a custom recovery it'll trip knox anyway? the only reason I would be interested in this at all was, if what the gentleman posted previous is true, being able to root and twrp w/o tripping iknox, well that would be a neat trick...
I waited to root and decided on Kingo, I was happy with the phone unrooted so I OTA updated to mj4. Having read a statement from Samsung addressing the fact that the mj4 update was actually a response to the de la Vega exploit, I figured there wasn't going to be a way to root with vega at any point soon having mj4. But I did want to start using rooted apps, I wanted to not trip Knox if I could, but I would have been okay with tripping it if I needed to in order to root.

I was worried about the security risk with kingo, but this is how I look at it. They need the information to make sure it's rooted correctly, it's all automatic, so I would assume it's not anything new.

If for some reason if they were stealing imei numbers, I don't think there would be any point to cloning a sprint phone in Asia. I searched really well, I did not find one person that said. "OMG my phone has been HAXORED!"

Considering the fact that they were even on this forum and went through the effort to try and apologize shows that if one person has any problem whatsoever, their goose is cooked.

if you do decide to use kingo because you're mj4, you may have to try a few times, I did it on a laptop running xp.

I haven't flashed anything yet but I think there's something called "safestrap" that's supposed to allow you to flash without tripping Knox, haven't looked too much into it.

After a bit of research that day, I came to a similar conclusion. For me, it was, in the long run, a moot issue, as root w/o a custom recovery would be useless. Habitual flasher. I'm (pretty) certain that the knox trip will eventually be worked around anyway.
Thanks for eloquently putting this statement together for people wondering!

I want to root but I'm a bit nervous after seeing that someone bricked a while back.

Most don't. Usually, those that do didn't follow instructions. Remember, those that have no problems don't go on forums complaining about how everything went awesome. Vocal minority and all.
It's super easy, just read a bit, watch the vid, watch it again, watch it while you're doing it even.
You can do it!

That's exactly right, on all fronts. I always measure thrice, cut once. Furthermore, people with good experiences often do keep quiet.

That stated, there is some inherent risk, and doing what you've suggested will shake that out in the process.

I'd also mention that no matter what you do, something unexpected can happen. The reading will keep one sane, as there is almost always a countermeasure that can be deployed to fix it.

Thanks for the video & links. I did this on my new Note last night and it was painless.

For anyone else whose first step after rooting is getting Titanium Backup apps restored, you may run into problems with those apps force-closing after restore. This is a known issue, and the fix lies in either of these links:

I have a related question and wanted to post it here b/c QBKing77 has frequently recommended CWM Recovery in the past. I first installed TWRP recovery no prob but quickly got frustrated that I couldn't copy the backups to the external SD card (Fat32) or my PC b/c I couldn't rename the backup files (which were too long for Windows etc.). I read in other threads that renaming was easy but cldn't get it done with Root Explorer or ES File Explorer. Soo... installed Clockwork Recovery Touch 6.0.4.6. A backup seemed to work fine. But after a restore (to fix a simple FlashBar issue) all hell broke loose with multiple Gapps and service force closes. I punted and did a wipe, but now don't know what to try for a recovery.

Does anyone here have experience with CWM working correctly on a Stock 4.3 rooted Note 3? And if so what versions. Or is there a way to rename TWRP nadroids?

loss of warranty.. but does it exclude if you have sprint insurance??? that is the only thing that would make me reconsider
I Was told by Samsung today that they don't care if Knox is tripped. Does not void Your factory Warranty. So root away my friends.Give SAmsung a Call if you're skeptical. they only care about physical damage.

Help

Here's a video showing how to root the Galaxy Note 3. Using the CF-auto root method from chainfire.
Keep in mind this may void your warranty.

More videos to come soon!
EDIT.

I was grabbing the wrong file. It was going to my S4 folder and grabbing that tar instead of the Note 3 folder.

I am booted up now. Thanks. Now to install recovery....

I did try taking out battery and restarting, it just goes right back to this green android screen. I tried to do the steps again. thru odin,. but it stills goes right back to here.

just don't...

Hey Guys,

This is my first "Android" Phablet (Note 3) SM-N9005. Had iPhones for last 3 years. Time for a change and time for a root

Ive Read all about the rooting process regarding the "Root de la Vega" so i don't trip the KNOX claymore :p

I've downloaded my AP, CSC files, de la Vega Odin v3.09 and the ADB Fastboot.zip (all from XDA latest Sources)

Few questions i have regarding the process before i get started:
- Do i need the INSTALLER. and SAMSUNG USB drivers 1.5.27.0 for the De la Vega root?
- people were talking about flashing some sort of backup will trip KNOX. is titanium backup going to trip KNOX after i root?
- What is this SUPERSu app/program? Do i get it before root or after root? do i need it?
- After i Root it. What is the best recommended ROM/Kernel to flash?[/QUOTE

Just don't.... don't root. Do you even know why you want to? Or is just because it's something you seen on Google?... js. Don't do it unless you know why your doing it.
