nc5 root kitkat 4.4.2

who has used the chainfire method and been successful on kitkat 4.4.2 nc5 version?
I want to root but I don't need a brick and if anyone has had problems what were they and did you do to fix it.

I used this method just this past weekend.

What I did was, odin the chainfire tar. let the phone reboot. you'll see a red android guy which does the rooting process
when that finished it rebooted and I waited for the samsung boot animation
then pulled the battery
put the phone back in download mode
and then odin'd Philz Recovery

then let it boot and everything was fine.
I immediately turned my phone off and restarted into recovery and ran a backup. :)

I didn't bother with the engineering bootloader.

I'm playing with XPosed and Wanam now

Hi everyone. I'm new to the note 3. I'm looking for a quick nd easy root. I'm on the Sprint variant. N900PVPUCNC5. I'm seeing a few different methods to root in the threads. Which is the best? Also can anyone recommend a good stock based rom that's fast and easy on the bettery. Even aosp will work as long as I can install the s-pen apps. Thank you everyone for your time and answers.

Trying to root right now, except when I plug the phone in and go into download mode it comes up with a blue ID:COMM10 not a yellow ID:COMM6...did this happen to you? If not is this still fine to proceed?

I'll reply here as well.

The color is not a factor at all, you're just using a different version of Odin than the video did. The important thing is that Odin sees your phone and is ready to push the tar file.

Note 3 SM-N900V with KitKat OTA

Hello - My Note 3 installed the KitKat update OTA. I use Bluetooth hearing aids in order to use the phone and after the update certain Bluetooth functions no longer work. I have never rooted a phone before and would like to know if anyone can point me in the right direction. I would either like to go back to my previous version or root the OTA KitKat version. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :)
Note 3 SM-N900V - Build Number KOT49H.N900VVRUCNC4 Thank You!

followed instructions on brand new spring note 3 4.4.2, but no root

I odin'd in the CF-Auto-Root-hltespr-hltespr-smn900p.tar.md5, and when i boot into the download mode of the phone, i see under current binary: Custom, System Status Custom, knox kernel lock 0x0, Knox warranty void 0x1,

but i have no root, and when i run root checker or any app that asks for root, i get a long pause, followed by a failure.

i have tried it several times, no change.

I tried the method from post #162 above, where you odin in the cf-auto-root, then pull the battery after it reboots and odin'd in phils recovery, and then still no change at all.

anyone else having these kinds of troubles? any recommendations?

EDIT: Success!! i booted into the phils recovery with the up-vol,power,home key and enabled root from there, and it worked like a champ.

Thanks! This would be perfect if we could re-root our phones with this and reset the Knox counter. :fingers-crossed: Does anybody dare to try it?
If you've already tripped knox, there's not much to lose. Geohot seems to know what he's doing, so I'm pretty sure there's very little chance you could do any damage to your phone.

I read part of the towelroot thread. It looks like even if it did reset the Knox counter, installing a custom recovery would trip it again. I don't think it's worth taking the chance.
