Can I RUU & Unroot from a rooted stock rom I downloaded? I'm using 3.17.651.4 CL250500 release-keys. It's a recent rooted, but is not modified much apart from that. I'm not sure where to find a pure stock rom to install.

Ok I have tried everything under the sun! I can't get my laptop Alienware 14. to see my HTC Device in fastboot Mode! Have all the drivers installed but says it malfunctioned when plugging it into my laptop in fastboot Mode! I have been trying to get this device rooted for 2 months and no luck so please help me out! I am using a Alienware 14 Windows 8 Machine! I have read some forums saying it might be a issue with Windows 8 and the USB 3.0 inputs! But this Laptop only has 3.O USB devices no 2.0! There has to be a way to get this to work! Why is it so much of a pain to root a HTC device. Samsung devices are a walk in the park compared to HTC Devices! If Anyone can help me out! Thanks a milllion :crying:

Have you tried installing HTC Sync, or tried a different computer, perhaps?

Also, have you tried using the toolkit in the link below?

Yes I have tried installing HTC Sync and un-in stalling it and tried all the programs! The problem is my Alienware 14 Laptop is not seeing my device in Fastboot mode. works great in normal connected mode. think its because there is a issue with Windows 8 and USB 3.0 with using Fastboot Mode. doesn't seem to be a solution for this issue. other then doing something with the USB 3.0 Drivers! But I tried installing different USB 3.0 drivers but no luck. Doesn't seem to be a real fix for USB 3.0 and thats a real shame! Should of got a Samsung Device instead. No S-Off bs with those devices! Only got this HTC Device because it was only $.99 on Wirefly! DAM

You could try a Linux live-dvd/usb... USB 3.0 is still a bugaboo either way though.

I was on 8.1 preview & had to downgrade back to a fresh restore of Windows 8, & what I did afterwards was download the toolkit that's in this forum, installed the adb/fastboot drivers that came with the toolkit, plugged my phone in & let all the drivers from it install, then followed the toolkit from unlocking my bootloader to moonshine s-off. When I was on 8.1 fastboot wouldn't recognize at all, but after going back to 8 it worked without any problems whatsoever. Hopefully this is somewhat helpful to you man.

EDIT: Here is the link to the toolkit that I used.

Thanks for trying to help but I am already on Windows 8!
I think the device doesnt support USB 3.0 in Fast Boot Mod!
and my laptop only has 3.0! Sucks!

Is this still a valid method to unroot? I'm thinking about turning in my phone for the One Up program. I'm not S-Off, but I want to go back to stock and unrooted?

Well, my HTC is DEAD! Water damage! So I got the Samsung Galaxy S4 and I am so happy! Will NEVER get another HTC device again! Unless they start doing away with that S-OFF bs! Too much of a pain! I rooted and flashed a new Rom on my S4 in less the 15 mins! LOL :silly:
