Please see this and insert it to your guide! It worked for me with latest 4.0.4!

http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/35239

There's already a link to the tutorial by DragonClawsAreSharp on how to root Android 4.0.4, which is very great. Had few users who tried that method on your link with flashing neo kernel (or any other kernel for wrong device), rooting and flashing kernel for their device, but the device didn't boot up anyway.
Maybe better try the method, where you downgrad and upgrade again. I think the tutorial is great, so I needn't do similar tutorial :)

Both are very easy, but Doomlord's sometimes crashes with my phone, so I would use Flashtool ;)

Hope the guide helps you!

Install them to be sure your device will be recognized in flash mode (if you aren't on .42 or .58 firmware). Otherwise there's no need, but better install them to be on the safe side ;)

- Connect it to flashtool again when it's turned on and flashtool will tell you if it's rooted automaticly
- Look if there is the superuser app in the app drawer (it must be there, but could be that there's supersu instead of it)
- Download a root checker from playstore

These 3 options (there are more) are there :)

thank you so much sir for this great tutorial and i appreciate your swift response to my noob questions... :D

speaking of which, i just want to ask, i wanted to remove some of the bloatwares but there is no option to "uninstall" it in the manage applications tab. do i need an app to uninstall those bloatwares?

Yes you can uninstall it with for example titanium backup or uninstaller pro.

But don't remove necessary apps, just things like facebook and all it's other apps or the japanese keyboard. There are much more and here should be a list, which apps you can remove, if I find it I'll post the link ;)

Edit: Found it here, but backup these apps using for example titanium backup and don't uninstall all, just apps, where you know you don't need them :)

you're really a big help sir,,, i really appreciate the time that you have given me.. thanks a lot..:highfive:

---------- Post added at 10:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:45 PM ----------

one more thing sir, is there any problem with my phone? in standby mode(screen is also off) there are often times that my phone is heating too much without using it, causing it to drain my battery too fast. i have experienced it before i flash and root but after rooting the problem still exist.

Do you have any idea on this case of mine?

Glad I could help you ;)

There are some people who have this overheating problem, but I don't know by what this is caused, maybe open a new thread, then other members could help you, too.

I've found this solution, but before you try it, please boot in cwm and make a nandroid backup, because I don't know if it works:

Download an app like Terminal emulator from market to use it as a shell script and launch it. There you type the following commands:
su
dev=/sys/devices/platform/spi_qsd.0/spi0.0
fw=touch_smultron_sony.hex
cyttsp_fwloader -dev $dev -fw /system/etc/firmware/$fw -verify_only
sleep 5
reboot -p

Looks like you will have to edit smultron (xperia mini) to your device like mango for sk17i but not sure, better ask the op...

Found this here ;)

The chance is very low if you are sure you have chosen the right firmware for your device ( remeber the difference between SK17/ST17/etc). Normally this won't break your device. Just don't disconnect while it's flashing!

I know how scared you are of the first time flasing ;)

Thanks for let me know the different between the device model, i will be careful. but one thing make me more scare is, as u mention that "dont disconnect the phone while its flashing" actually the country where i m leaving has an issue of electricity. sometime its gone without any notice so my question is, let suppose if my phone is in flashing and suddenly light is gone then what will happen? my phone will brick? if yes then can i revive it back or its remain in dead?

Yes I don't know which device you have got, but there are:
xperia mini pro=sk17i/a
xperia mini= st15i/a
xperia ray=st18a/i
xperia live with walkman=wt19a/i
xperia active=st17a/i

If you could use a notebook for flashing, you normally won't have any problems while flasing and flashing needs normally about 1 minute.
If the power of a desktop pc goes off while flashing, you normally should be able to enter flashmode again and flash the ftf again.

But I can't promise, so better charge your phone to over 75% and your (or your friend's notebook) to over 75% and don't connect the notebook to the socket. Then flash it and this should work ;)

This is a tutorial on how to root 2011er xperia devices. This method is for locked bootloader with stock sony kernel.
I know there are several threads on this topic, but many people asked me so - here we go:

Rooting your device will void your warranty! Your are doing all the following steps on your own risk! :)

    First look here:

    1. Your firmware is 4.0.2.A.0.42 or 4.0.2.A.0.58

    2. Your firmware is 4.0.2.A.0.62 or 4.0.2.A.0.69

    3. Your firmware is 4.1.B.0.431

    4. Your firmware is 4.1.B.0.587

    5. Unlocked Bootloader

    6. The new ultimative rooting script for all firmware versions

    7. Other methods (stable and experimental)

    1. For 4.0.2.A.0.42 or 4.0.2.A.0.58 firmware:

    a) Flashtool method

This is a very easy method to root your phone. For this method you download flashtool from here and install it.

When it is installed, you launch it.
    attachment.php

On your phone you go to Settings -> Applications -> and enable unknown sources.
    attachment.php

After that, you go to Settings -> Applications -> Development -> and enable usb debugging.
    attachment.php

Finally you go to Settings ->Sony Ericsson ->Connectivity ->USB connection mode ->MSC
    attachment.php

Now you connect your device to the pc and flashtool will automatically recognize it.
    attachment.php

Now if your device is connected and recognized, we can begin with the rooting process:

For that we click on the open padlock here:
    attachment.php

Now it will root your device automatically

    Here's the log:
    Code:

Gratulation! You have a rooted xperia 2011 device now!

    b) DooMLoRD's Toolkit

This is a very easy method for rooting, too. You just go to this thread by DooMLoRD and click thanks for his great toolkit!

Then you download the toolkit and when it has finished downloading you unpack the zip and open the folder!
    attachment.php

Before we can start we must go on the device and do the following steps:

First you go on your phone and go to Settings -> Applications -> and enable unknown sources.
    attachment.php

After that, you go to Settings -> Applications -> Development -> and enable usb debugging.
    attachment.php

Finally you go to Settings ->Sony Ericsson ->Connectivity ->USB connection mode ->MSC
    attachment.php

Now you run the toolkit by clicking the runme.bat
    attachment.php

The toolkit will start in a cmd window
    attachment.php

Now you only have to hit any key and the rooting toolkit will automatically root the device.

Gratulation! You have a rooted xperia 2011 device now!

    2. For 4.0.2.A.0.62 or 4.0.2.A.0.69

To root these two firmware versions, you'll first have to downgrade your phone to 4.0.2.A.0.42 or 4.0.2.A.0.58.
Remember: Flashing firmware may void your warranty!

Your data will be lost throug this step, so if you want to, save it using for example Android Assistant, which can backup the .apk (but the data will be lost), or you use adb backup. Remember to save your contacts and sms, too!

MAKE SURE PC COMPANION OR SONY UPDATE SERVICE ISN'T RUNNING IN BACKGROUND WHILE YOU ARE FLASHING!!! DON'T USE THIS METHOD IF YOUR BOOTLOADER IS UNLOCKED, OTHERWISE YOUR DEVICE WILL BRICK!! (Unlocked bootloaders can't do updates over the air, but flashing won't destroy your phone on unlocked bootloader!)

First you have to flash the 4.0.2.A.0.42. To do so you download and install flashtool from here.
You can download the firmware from this thread by benji.berg or here by someguyfromhell.
Thanks for sharing the firmware with us!
Download the 4.0.2.A.0.42 for your device!

After the installation of Flashtool you open the windows explorer and go to the downloaded file. If it is a 7z or zip archive you unpack it to get a .ftf file.
    attachment.php

Now you open the flashtool installation folder. There you go to the drivers folder and install the drivers.
    attachment.php

In the flashtool -> drivers folder is the drivers installer
    attachment.php

Now we go to the downloaded .ftf file and copy it to the firmware folder of Flashtool
    attachment.php

    Programs -> Flashtool -> Firmwares:
    attachment.php

    Next we launch flashtool
    attachment.php

Now, to flash a new firmware, we click on the flash
    attachment.php

In the Mode Selector you choose Flashmode and click ok
    attachment.php

In the next step you choose the firmware and you mark wipe data and wipe cache. Just mark it like you see it in the picture. If you are sure all is marked right, you click ok
    attachment.php

Now you have to turn off your device. Make sure the battery is more than 75%. You press and hold the volume down key and while pressing volume down you connect your device to pc. The green led will light up and Flashtool will automatically flash the new firmware.
DON'T DISCONNECT THE DEVICE FROM YOUR PC DURING THE FLASHING PROCESS!!

    Here's the flashing log:
    Code:
    20/019/2012 11:19:39 - INFO -
    20/019/2012 11:19:39 - INFO - <- This level is successfully initialized

Check your log first before you restart the phone. If there are no errors, go on.

You have to restart your phone then. When it has started go through the setup assistant.

You are on 4.0.2.A.0.42 or 4.0.2.A.0.58 firmware now, so you go to
    1. For 4.0.2.A.0.42 or 4.0.2.A.0.58 firmware and root your device like it is explained there. :)
When your device is rooted, you connect your xperia via wifi to the internet. Now you start the update center (on your phone) and search for updates. It will find the update to 4.0.2.A.0.62 which you install over the air (ota=via wlan, not connect to pc) then.
    attachment.php

    attachment.php

    attachment.php

Now you click on download and install it.

After a reboot you have a rooted 4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware! :)

The rooting methods/toolkits/firmwares/etc were NOT my work, I've just collected different tutorials on rooting the xperia devices like xperia mini/mini pro/active/ray/lww/etc in one big rooting guide!
    28
    3. For 4.1.B.0.431

Just look in this very nice tutorial to root the ics firmware of the devices.

    4. For 4.1.B.0.587

To root this firmware version please go here. This tutorial by alokbina should help you!

    5. Unlocked bootloader

If you have an unlocked bootloader, you can just flash a custom kernel (boot.img), that is prerooted. Check out development forum, for all the kernels!

    6. The new ultimative rooting script for all firmware versions!

Here you can find the best way to root your phone on every software version (gingerbread and ice cream sandwich). Just download the script and run it. Then your phone should be rooted! Good luck and a big thanks to Nabeel. ;)

Hey thanxx . I jst rooted my Sony lww and it works fine:D:D

Great it worked for me with the second try :D Thx!

Thanks for the great guide, rooted my Xperia Mini with no problems :)

Great!! New method with Eroot for .587 firmware is excellent!!

Thank you.:good: Many times helped me to root .587 and .62 on my Ray.It would be nice to root 4.0.2.A.0.84 for Ray, but I can still unlock my BL :highfive:

    thanks!! it works

I've managed to root my Xperia Mini Pro (SK17i)! :D It's awesome, just trying out more features!

It's really cool it worked for you, but I think there is the thanks button to say it, because there are some people who still have questions and they want to ask them here. If there are too many posts just saying "thanks" it's spam I guess, so please just use the thanks button guys. Thank you ;)
    3
honestly, I don't think we need one more tutorial, there are already several of'em. why repeating the stuff said by somebody else?

Cause there are so many people asking "how to root st15i" and then there comes out, that they are on .62 firmware which is unrootable. Or they telling a root problem, but they are on .69 firmware or ics! I wanna make a rooting guide with all firmwares included, so also newbies can just look for their firmware and root it!
