I recently purchased a 32gb card for my s3 and I can't seem to get the CWM backups to store on the SD card to free up internal phone space. Is it as easy as moving the CWM folder to the SD card and then I'm done, or is it a bit more involved than that? Thank you in advance

Edit: Also, should I partition my SD card before I use it? And if so, is there a particular method that I should use to partition it? Thank you

I don't see any particular reason for partitioning your sd card. As for now, cwm doesn't use your sd card. It's in the works though.

Thank you for the response. So it would not be possible to just move the clockworkmod folder from my internal sd card to my external sd card? I had seen other posts where this was done on other phones, but I was unsure with this version of CWM

Correct, for now backups are stored on the internal storage. until devs can change the backup storage location to external SD, they will be stored internal. you can however use a program like root explorer or ES File manager to move them to external, however, subsequent backups will continue to be stored internally until you install a different version of CWM that supports backups to external SD.

keep in mind you cannot restore a backup that is saved on external either. you wold need to move the backup back to internal storage to restore it. AFAIK.

Happy Flashing. :)

Awesome news! I take it that flashing this with Odin will remove root. Is this correct? Is there any chance this comes out in a zip file that doesn't break root? If so, I may wait as I already have root and there is no compelling reason to update since the development is currently stalled.

This will not remove root. It only replaces the cwm recovery.

Hmm, well I flashed it and Odin said it passed but I am still unable to mount my sdcard. Any clues? I tried it two times just in case the first time was an error, alas, no change.

how long does the s3 take to do a back up?
mine has been going for about 15 mins now 'backing up data'.....
im not sure if it froze or if its going to be making a big file..

_EDIT_
is anyone else not able to make a back up?
ive let mine go for about 20 minutes and it finally spit out an error.
it was trying to back up data and it hung up for a while.
there error message was ''Error while making a backup image of /data!''
i checked to see if there was an error log but there was none.

I don't have any troubles here. What steps are you taking to mount your sdcard? Internal or external?

A new version has been uploaded, CWM-SGS3-LTE-v3. Although I have gone back and tested v2 again, and it still works for me. For anyone not having trouble on v2, there should be no need to update to v3.

As far as backups go, I believe the problem is this: Since the internal sdcard is actually located at /data/media, it is being backed up along with /data in a CWM backup. Thus, each subsequent backup includes ALL the previous backups resulting in a an increasingly massive data.ext4.tar file, as well as taking up that much more time. It wouldn't take many backups to fill up your space. I would recommend moving any backups you'd like to save to the external sdcard, and deleting old backups. Also move anything else you don't need to save internally to the external sdcard, then try again.

Does the card being formatted as exfat have anything to do with CWM not recognizing the card? If so, that is the issue I'm guessing.

I can reformat if needed but rather get a confirmation so I don't need to take so long re-uploading my music library to the sdcard.
