how to tell whats causing ads

i have an app that is bringing ads to my phone. if i click the ad, it doesnt pull up the app so i can see what is causing it.
is there anyway to tell what i downloaded to bring this onset of annoyance?
i have ad free but it cant seem to block this one...

There is an app on the market that detects the app that is sending the add.

Use "AirPush Detector" in the Play Store. It should find what app is pushing ads to your notification bar.

Airpush Detector is good but i like Addons Detector better. Not only does it show you apps that use push notifications, but a bunch of other stuff as well. Like what apps have what permissions, and when you installed them.
