Hello Guys,

I stayed silent the last couple of days because I bricked my Xoom Wifi US Version. I tried to relock the device because I did want to install the 3.1 update.

So as I went back to stock images and in the second last step relocked the device it got stock after a reboot. It showed 0x0004 starting RSD Mode or if did hold volume down during startup starting fastboot support. Regardless of the mode, it wasnt recognized from my PC.

There was no solution to find to recover from that.

xxxxx
Solution:
-> Grab a cup of coffee
-> get a micro usb cable and soldering tools
-> open wikipedia page: Universal Serial Bus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
What you need to do is to solder a Motorola factory repair cable. On the Micro USB Port there is a unused pin (PIN 4) this pin needs to be connected to Pwr (usually the red USB wire). After that connect the Xoom with that cable and the Powercable plugged to your PC.
Then start fastboot and type fastboot unlock bootloader.
Thats it you finally resolved the Stuck in RSD Mode 0x0002 or 4 issue.

Shouldnt take more then 10min if you have soldering skills.

If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask.

Best regards from Germany,
Rotesmofa

Cable should look anything like this:

I used the cable of my old Galaxy S, it is very easy because it has a little PCB inside which makes soldering a charme!

I think its to simple for that.
If you take a look on the wikipedia page, there is a subtitle named physical appearance. There is the normal USB listed (Pin 1 == Power + ) and the Micro USB so you open the connector on the Micro USB Side with a good caliper (i dont know the exact english word :) ). Make sure the red wire is Power + by using a Multimeter and then use a small cable to connect this as a bridge to Pin 4.

Wow, if this works there will be a lot of happy people, Can you provide a step by step on how you created the cable and what you did when you plugged it in to get it all back to normal, then ask the Mods to sticky it :)

it would be via Mail 3,45€ + 2,05€ for Mail with Receipt. I dont wont to earn something with it.

You should ask some local electronics repair shop, they can build it faster.

I made a cable as your instructions. My Xoom was shutdown immediately. I have to press Power button and waiting. But it still stuck at Motorola Logo with message LNX 0x0004 . Starting RSD mode 2.

I type fastboot unlock bootloader but nothing happen. The screen said waiting for devices. Even try fastboot oem unlock.

Did i do something wrong?

I cant figure out a false step, what i did was:

-> Finish the cable and test it with a Multimeter (== is +5V at pin 4 and 1?)
-> Connect the xoom with the power cable and the special USB cable
-> Plug the xoom into the PC
-> now the PC starts recognize a NVZ (or some else) device which needs to be recovered. The Xoom screen was at the RSD Mode 2 sign. Then I typed fastboot oem unlock and then it worked again.

----
Please check your drivers
Check if your Hardware Manager does see the xoom with the cable
Remember the xoom special cable lets the xoom forget that it has a battery, if you unplug it, it will shut of imiediatly.

Hope you can fix your Xoom.

A question about your un-bricking method

Hello friend. :)

I've bricked my Xoom by trying format a micro-SD card with ClockWorkMOD recovery software. I reboot and now my US WiFi-Only Xoom is totally dead, only charges its battery, not more.

My question is: Do you think that your un-bricking method could un-brick my dead Xoom?

Many thanks in advance... :)

Thanks for your answer, but I've tired that...

Hello.

Sorry about that, but I've tried that and all other button combinations in order to try a hard boot. I've read that ClockWorkMOD partition utility apparently format the NAND memory of the XOOM US-Wifi only model. :(

Do you think that your cable method can be of any help?

Thanks

Keep posting here with your results - I am in exactly the same position you are in.... I think Clockwork mod recovery has assisted me in formatting the NAND memory too....

I'm so sorry for your situation.

Did you by any chance "upgrade" to version 4.x.x.x. of the ClockworkMod Recovery through ROM Manager? If you did, that's where the problem came from. That version doesn't read the "external" sd card, but only sees the internal sd card which is where all of our apps and data is. If you tried to format your sdcard in that version, I think it must have formated your internal storage instead. I'm not sure if there is a fix for that if that is what happened, but good luck!
