First of all, I would like to say thank you. Without this website and all the contributors providing us free guides, I probably would have to get rid of both my LG G8 and G8X for expensive Apple or Samsung phones.
My phone is Sprint unlocked LG G8X running Android 10, software update G850UM20p.
I can confirm that simply replacing both abl_a and abl_b with the same modified abl_a version from https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...nlock-and-magisk-root-using-firehose.4221793/ like Nate0 did allow both VoLTE and Wifi Calling (maybe Video Calling too) to work with TMobile without doing anything else.
I simply used Partition Manager in QFIL to backup both abl_a and abl_b, closed out of Partition Manager like the guide say (I'm not really sure if this is absolutely necessary or not) went back into it again and loaded the modified version of abl_a from the link in the guide into both abl_a and abl_b. I did this with an inactive TMobile sim inserted.
When I rebooted the phone, it now displays TMobile logo instead of Sprint. It also installed TMobile Hotspot and TMobile app. Also gone from Network & internet in the settings menu is the option for toggling VolTE and Wifi Calling on/off, but there is now a standalone Wi-Fi Calling option that you can toggle on/off. The hidden menu *#*#4636#*#* now shows provisioned for VoLTE, Wifi Calling, Video Calling. The picture showing Video Calling as not provisioned is from Sprint LG G8 cross flashed with US Open firmware G820QM20f_00_NAO_US_OP_0402.kdz.
I tried cross flashing the G8X too using a guide written by netmsm, but couldn't get it to work for some reason although the same method worked perfectly for the G8 (thanks netmsm) kept getting error 0x6004, CrossDL TMO_US>OPEN_US. Both VoLTE and Wifi Calling works after cross flashing the G8 running 20f update with US Open firmware but dont know why Video Calling is not provisioned like on the G8X.
I tested VoLTE and Wifi Calling on the G8X with an active TMobile sim and both worked perfectly. Calls now connect instantly and sound clearer and not take 5 or more seconds to switch network like when VoLTE wasn't working.

Oh my! exactly the same software version here! I've been desperately looking for ways on how to cross flash my device. LGUP says model can't be changed.
Got Volte, WiFi calling and video calling on my LG G8X G850UM on 20P software.
Uploaded the modded abl_a to both _a and _b. Insert an active T-Mobile SIM card, got new TMobile bootup logo. Got the wifi-calling switch. Got into Phone Info and saw votle Provisioned, WiFi calling provisioned, and video calling provisioned. Grayed out however. I made a call to my landline and the 4G LTE light stayed on. I guess it is working.
The most difficult part was to get the phone on EDL mode. Must have tried 20 times before getting the "dark screen" EDL mode, only to learn that a Qualcomm hs-usb qdloader 9008 driver was needed.
Anyway. This seems to be the easiest way to get volte, WiFi calling, and others without unlocking and root.
Update: The modded (abl_a) LG G8X failed the safety test and would not get in download mode (for firmware update). I reposted a picture here. Then the phone would boot into fastboot mode. Also the phone reboot OK and get back into OS. . I was testing the idea of flashing a G850QM (unlocked) version of kdz on this sprint-unlocked G850UM 20p. Looking into risk and reward , I am leaving this phone alone for now because it already has Volte and Wi-Fi calling that I want.

I just bought A LG g8x thinq. The software version is g850u20p. Android 10 . Can you please help me root ? If you can I would appreciate it.All fix avilable (no network solved)

its a att phone that i crossed flash to the can verison for root and install twrp but i cant get past to show the internal storge so i can install a custom os thanks
I think I knew a command or something before to fix this but it's for Samsung only I think sadly.

I have the exact same issues. Didn't notice the Indian variant on Magisk in the Root guide, and ended up with an unusable phone.
You say boot_a image stock, do you mean from before the whole process? I unfortunately didn't back up this particular partition..
Boot.zip contains the boot.img file pulled from the kdz of the US G850 20b.I don't know if this is useful, but I got it...
ReadData_.ufs_Lun4_...... is the boot_a file pulled from my phone after I turned it into a buggy mess
I also don't know if this helps, but I do need help getting my phone working again if you'd be so kind. This is NOT the boot_b flashed as boot_a like mentioned in the video.1

EDIT: I have potentially good news! I was completely stuck in a boot loop, but using the files from the KDZ (modem_a, modem_b, boot_a,boot_b, abl_a, and abl_b) and pushed them each with fastboot. The device restarted (with sound!) and it is resetting to stock now. We'll see what happens!1
