I am very sure I have it correct. I have done this with other phones.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

I am going to fatory reset the phone and try again.

you are likely not doing anything wrong. you could have hardware mismatches,or some other software issue preventing the phone from giving you a useable token, i had a sensation member not be able to htcdev unlock after an htc repair that left him with some sort of imie/main board mismatch.

you may need to find some other means of temp root,so you can flash the modified misc image th old fasioned way in a temp root shell. you could then download to the same older fimrware linked in the OP and run unrevoked to get s off.

just becasue htcdev unlock is not working, doesnt mean all hope is lost :)

Do you know of another guide I can try?

I have tried several computers and USB cords with no success.
not, really, sorry. youll just need to search for an exploit or tool that works to give you a root shell in adb(#>),in the booted OS. at that point id be happy to help with the commands to flash the new misc image. i can try and help search for a working temp root, but real life has me pretty busy lately,so i dont know how soon id have any time to devote to that :(

I have found the problem

I was working too fast and not understanding it fully

I left "(bootloader)" at the start of each line.

Sorry for such a simple mistake, and thank you for trying to help.

Can you provide a link please?

Every thing I have seen requires HTC Dev and it does not work for me.
while im skeptical of that, stranger things have happened ;) if you run it enuff times it may well get you root access, wich you can use to downgrade(forever will not work on your newer baseband)

unrevoked can be found here: http://unrevoked.com/

he is suggesting to put the contents of "reflash package" into your adb/fastboot folder and run it from there.

failing that, there is an older version of unrevoked that has been found to work on some gingerbread builds. there is a link to it in this thread:
http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/427344-how-root-2-3-4-downgrade-get-s-off.html

you might try that version as well, tho in the later weeks of that thread it seemed to fail as often as it worked

I followed all of the instructions very slowly (Will try again in the morning)

any suggestions or thoughts as to what I could have done wrong.

Thank you!

Second HTC Inc successfully unlocked, rooted, downgraded, rooted and s-off.

The first Inc is my DD which still gets the job done. The second I just got yesterday from my cousin and will use for ROM testing.

Thank you scotty1223!

My daughter recently got a new device, and I inherited her old HTC Droid Incredible. I like to take old devices and update them when possible, recycle baby!!!

Anyways I love this write-up, I made to # 3 flash superuser root files. I followed all the steps:

1)place superuser 3.07 onto the root of your sd card. DONE
2)enter recovery via the hboot menu(power off, power on while holding vol down. once in hboot, wait for green writing to flash, then select recovery with power button and vol rocker) DONE
3)use the recovery menu on your phone to:
-make a backup of your stock, unrooted rom. completely optional, but a very good idea,IMO.
-wipe cache DONE
-wipe dalvik cache NOT AN OPTION
-install zip from sd card(chose your superuser file) FAIL
-reboot

I noticed everyone saying to use the optic track and not the power button. I can use the optic trac to move up and down, but I cannot use it to make selections. Only the power button works for selections. When I select Recovery I immediately get the red triangle w/ exclamation point. I hold volume up and power and that gets me the Android System recovery menu. I have an error waiting for me that says:

E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command

If I choose Apply update from sdcard, and hit power, I get --Invalid Operation--.

I am at a loss for what my next step should be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go back to step 2 and reflash your recovery . What you're seeing is the stock recovery and it will not work to install superuser;)
