I already have my Nexus 9. Everything is already installed.
...I know. You've already said that. What I'm saying is that I don't understand why you didn't unlock the bootloader first, if you plan to anyways. Unless you just didn't think of it at the time. Anyways, It doesnt really matter.

I wonder what HTC means when they say ,"this *may* void your warranty" when unlocking the bootloader. Did the all the other nexus devices say that in the bootloader before they were unlocked?
FWIW, unlocking definitely voids the warranty. Here's the fine print:

[this limited warranty shall not apply]
12. to any Product in which the bootloader has been unlocked, or in which the operating system has been altered, including any failed attempts to unlock the bootloader or alter the operating system, regardless whether such modifications are authorized, approved, or otherwise sanctioned by HTC.

I wonder if they can tell it was unlocked if it is re-locked.

When I had my HTC M8 it posted a tampered flag once it was unlocked. Believe it showed in bootloader. Does it have knox (?) Like Samsungs tablets? I'm not unlocking until I'm damn sure it can be reverted back and I know I plan on keeping this tablet.

Does it show a flag anywhere after unlocking it?

Only get tampered on HTC when flash recovery. Haven't tried on Nexus device. Even that flag can be removed if done correctly. If done correctly on HTC devices warranty is only voided if use HTC Dev to unlock as you blacklist your serial number. From what I can tell from previous devices actually only lose warranty if don't remove the unlocked and tampered tags before return.

Anybody tried relocking the bootloader?
On other HTC devices the bootloader will say "relocked" instead of "locked".

Message has been Baconized
That too. HTC M8 could show tampered, relocked, and for devolpment only blah blah blah.
Of course with s off most could be corrected. It just didn't leave you comfortable inside doing so. Again, I'm going to wait a little to see if there's a flag hidden and if so can we reset it.

Can someone run

Code:
fastboot oem device-info
and see what that returns with? That's how you check the tamper flag on the nexus 4 and 5. It will probably be different on the N9, but it's worth checking.
