Been asked a million times. You can update it in 5 minutes with latest US998 Oreo KDZ posted in this forum, once you install LGUP. Latest as of this moment is US998 20H. Some of the answers below are over the PAST YEAR, so you may see older Oreo KDZ mentioned. It's the METHOD that's important, that is the same.

I would add that you can also use LG Bridge, which is their official tool for backup and phone updating.

You can do other, more hacky and sophisticated things with LGUP, including rolling back to previous Android versions. You can also do things you shouldn't and which you'll regret. That's almost impossible with LG Bridge.

But you can't always use LG Bridge to update firmware...

* If it's former North American variant converted to US998, LG Bridge still sees the "LS998" IMEI or whatever. So you have to manually update through LGUP with downloaded KDZ. Same thing, you're just doing it manually. (Same reason these converted US998 probably don't receive OTA updates?)

They're still US998, there's nothing "wrong" with them, except manual updates. I just bought another converted LS998/US998 V30+ recently. I think I'm addicted... It's flawless condition, by the way.

* Also, even with native US998, I've had LG Bridge tell me I have the latest firmware -- when I don't. So, again LGUP is the answer.

Good points, Chaz. Until recently I always used LG Bridge myself, easy peasy. But I can see with so many Frankenphoned LS998 in circulation, that LGUP is a more predictable advice.

And, ahem... Yes, you may in fact qualify as addicted. How many of these are you up to now? ;)

But they really are a great value at this point, no doubt.

Besides my wife's and my B&H Photo native US998 V30 (64GB) and V30+ (128GB) which we use daily...

I have one new (yes, actually new from Wal-mart) V30+ in box, and this recent mint V30+ off eBay. Both are former LS998 V30+ converted to US998 V30+. (Yes, came from Wal-Mart that way.) I tell myself these two are backups, in case of emergency. ;) I probably only need one -- not two -- but I couldn't resist buying another.

I ALSO have a mint 2018 AT&T LG V35 flashed to Google Fi firmware, which I've taken out of the box once. I'm not sure what to do with that. I was hoping we would get bootloader unlock, TWRP, and root for the LG V35. There is some kind of remote bootloader unlock and root available, but not TWRP that I'm aware of...

All the other LG V30/V30+ I gave to family/sold to friends.
