The NAB tar file is not available via the link on step 4. Would you have this on your dropbox account as well?

4. The NAB tar file, transferred over to the root directory of your phone (phone) (Thanks to @freeza for getting this for us~!)

I do not. But you can download it from the Samsung Updates website, just like for NC5.

Out of curiosity ... If I flash the kitkat upgrade after rooting the MJ4 (4.3) , I get to keep the root, and not trip Knox.

Now, what happens if I want to revert or send phone to repair ? I can't "unroot" since I think the root needs the the same version, and it's for the 4.3 ...

Will a factory reset just go to stock unrooted 4.4 ?

(which won't be able to be re-rooted, since it can only be rooted on 4.3?)

You can unroot the phone via the SuperSU app - there is an option for it.

The root should still survive after a factory reset. It won't survive, however, if you flash a tar via desktop Odin (since the system partition gets rewritten).

I see. Cheers. For the moment I'm still on a rooted 4.3
There
was a thread about the benefits of 4.4 and what you'll lose, and due to lack of time and energy, I left it as is.

So much for coming back to Samsung because you could play around with them...

You can now use towelroot from geohot to root stock NC5 if you want to upgrade to 4.4 and keep knox 0x0

Have any Sprint Note 3 users with Knox 0x0 verify that Knox wasn't tripped? For some other phones, some users have had their Knox tripped to 0x1.

If this works on NAB and NC5 without tripping Knox, it'd be great and a time-saver.

I know that the Sprint S5 was successfully rooted and knox 0x0. While that is not our exact phone, I would like to believe it would do the same for ours. I need to reset my phone anyways... getting a lot of reboots into bootloader about modem kernel panic.

If I flash that tar, I will lose user data... Right?

No, not in my experience. After every dirty flash, I was able to keep all my data and mods on all 3 phones (Galaxy S4, Note 3, and Nexus 5). But just to be sure, make backup using SMS Backup, Call Log Backup, MyBackup, etc.

I flashed the tar, kept data... But after I run Towelroot, and install superSU from chainfires website, it says the binaries aren't installed. If this is too far off topic I apologize. I was just hoping someone else might have ran into a similar issue.

EDIT :

There was a small system update available , so I installed it via OTA ... I re ran the towelroot app and it worked properly. I installed superSU again, rebooted and updated the binaries. Knox is still 0x0 and root is verified via Root checker.

I believe the small system update put me on kernel 3.4.0-951486 which is compatible.
