How to update to 4.4.X Kit Kat

Hi i have a S3 i747 ATT running 4.1.1 baseband I747UCDLK3, i want to update to kit kat to the latest version because i want to install lineageos, i don't live in the USA and i don't get the OTA update, it says that it's up to date. I've read that it's dangerous to jump from 4.1.1 to 4.4.X, that it might brick my device.

I want to know what's the right steps to follow in order to get to 4.4.x safely without bricking my device.

Is the phone running a stock AT&T 4.1.1?

If you want to run Lineage, you will have to flash the 4.4.2 bootloader and modem.
