You're the star! Thanks the upgrade went without any problems after restoring original iptables file. Many thanks!

You're welcome!

I'm still on ICS, after reading about some JB issues I'm reluctant to update until Asus pushes some fixes (for the alarm clock and HDMI output, as an example).

Hi, do you think, if I wouldn't modify the iptables file again - will the automated update go through on my device ?

cheers, Grand

If everything is stock (including iptables) you should have no problem in receiving OTA updates. It seems that only unlocking the bootloader or freezing/deleting system apps (or editing the build.prop/iptables/etc) will result in no OTAs.

HA! I've been granted your wish! Jeally Bean for the win !

btw, when you guys say Freeze application you mean 'disable' app ? I hate most of the apps that come with asus I always disable them.

Yes, Disable. I also like my tablet without bloatware, so I freeze a lot of stuff (some apps cannot be disabled from the Apps menu, so use something like Titanium Backup).

@ch3mn3y

Read again ! ;)
My device was rooted AND unlocked before I updated to JB. I updated the Tablet before I read this thread and was completely unaware of a brick risk.
Finally I am happy to have a functional non-bricked device.
