I tried to flash Jasmine ROM and my bootloader got returned to stock (although I kept root access). Not sure how that happened, but my phone was working fine anyway. Then I decided to reflash TWRP and now my phone is soft bricked because it detected a custom bootloader.

I've tried to reflash stock ROMs for MJ7 and NC4 but get SW REV CHECK errors. (pretty sure I rooted on NC4 using towelroot originally)

my question is, is there any way to flash the stock bootloader without flashing the entire stock image?

Or is there any way to totally reset my phone other than flashing a stock image? I don't want to flash 4.4.4 or higher because then I'll permanently lose root.
You can find partial firmware in the Jasmine Rom thread. Flash that via Odin in the AP slot. If that fails your probably out of luck.

yeah i did that, but i had accidentally rebooted my phone first and cut it off half-way during the boot to go back to download mode to flash the partial firmware. maybe that's where i messed up.

i couldn't go without a phone....i flashed stock OB6 lollipop and lost root. I'm really bummed about it, can't stand all the verizon crap on my phone and can't do half the things I used to do.....but at least i have a phone. crossing my fingers for a lollipop root method in the future, since I think I can get a couple more years out of my note 3.

BackChecks recommendation worked for me! If I could thank you a million times , i would. My situation:
flashed OF1 jasmine 6.1 lollipop. found some bugs i couldn't live with. So I flashed back to NK1 using the flashfire as recommended in this thread.
Everything was going alright, but for whatever reason, my phone became soft bricked after removing my SD card to transfer some files. I could get into the bootloader and Download mode, and that is about it.
I flashed the partial firmware as a last resort via ODIN, and after several very nerve racking reboots, my phone is back to 5.0.2 Jasmine and root has been retained.
I'm going to attempt to get back to 4.4.4 NK1 this evening.
UDPDATE. I seem to have successfully flashed back to 4.4.4 NK1 ... I received an "out of space" error during the Flashfire process, during what appeared to be the PARTITIONS.zip file... that scared the #[email protected]! out of me. but things booted up and seem to be working ok. The only problem i've ran into is a problem with Facebook and SSO authentication. I have a couple things left to try, but I do not believe this is being caused by the error I received during the FlashFire process. It is a bit concerning. I'll see if I can dig out the error in the logs. (if there are any, for flashfire) maybe someone can make sense of them.

UPDATE UPDATE: found the logs. Can someone take a look and see what, if anything, i need to do. After seeing all the errors in the log, I'm not sure how my phone is even working right now
