Stock does not appear to have this option available... at least not on my Honor 5x, L24

you aren't missing anything... it's a nearly useless feature in the manner 'stock ROM' implements it.

I found out how to play with the split-screen/multi-windows feature !

Implementation is not as good as the Samsung's one, but it works.

With Marshmallow, you simply need to do a long press on the square virtual button and your display will be split in 2 parts, then choose the apps you want to run. :p

You're on stock I assume? I just tried this on CM13 and it had a different effect. On CM13 it opens your "previous" app in from the background. It's actually pretty nifty for going back and forth between two apps.

Yes, this is with stock !

CM13 is CM13 and it has its own implementation. ;)

Very nice. Too bad there's so few supported apps.

In fact it works the same way with stock :

- Short press on the square virtual key to get "previous" apps.
- long press for multi-windows. ;)

:D

There is an option for additional apps in the Applications settings, but I can't remember where... ;)

Nope, it's different. On CM13:
- Short press: Cards view of previous apps
- Long press: Open previous app (no choice/selection, it just opens your previous app)
