SPH-L720

I installed cf-auto-root-jfltespr-jfltespr-sphl720.zip
on my Sprint S4 which has a Build number KOT49H.L720PUFNG2 and
Baseband Version L720VPUFNAE.

The wifi no longer turns on. What may I be missing?

I got an update a week ago and just recently tried to root via towelroot and it tells me my phone is not suppport or doesn't recognize my phone.
Yes, I did try the codes to, 3 in fact, same results all three times.
This is with v3 of towelroot too.
I'm having the EXACT same issue. I have a S4 and so does my wife.

I used towelroot a while back on mine and it worked great, no issues at all.

My Wife's S4 was updated and now towelroot will not work. Not sure how to root the phone now.
Her build number is: Build # [KOT49H.L720TVPUBNG5]

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ct autoroot does NOT work on the latest NG2 stock firmware. I just downloaded directly from SamMobile, verified md5 and tried to Odin cf Autoroot twice after successfully Odin-ing the firmware and verifying a working ROM.

Could someone please update the OP?

EDIT: OK, the video linked in the OP links to an outdated version of cf autoroot. The file available from the source is updated and works! Unfortunately, the file has exact same name, but content is different, so it is not obvious.

Could someone update the OP?

Stuck in middle of rooting process

Using qbking77's very nice rooting procedure for my Samsung Galaxy S4 (Sprint).

But unfortunately, I did something out of order, putting the phone into downloading mode and connecting it to the PC before having installed the Samsung drivers. So, of course, Odin won't recognize the phone. And now the drivers won't install - the installation hangs at the start of the progress bar.

I'd like to reboot my PC (while keeping my phone on and in downloading mode), to see if I can get the drivers installed. Then I'd also use Odin 1.85 instead of 3.07. But will I screw something up if I do that? I had already loaded the CF-Auto-Root . . . file into the PA/PDA box.

I'm now afraid to move! H E L P!

Man I owe you a case of beer....
Long story short, I just got a brand new in the box GS4 as a replacement for my GS3 (yes, I wear things out before I pay for upgrades) and I thought I would wander right on into the rooting and flashing game like I knew what I was doing. Well, 2 hours of sheer panic later, I saw your post with the correct links and was able to successfully get the phone rooted from what seemed like a solid lock/complete bricking of my brand new phone... THANK YOU.

Now all I need to know is what recovery should I actually use on this phone so I can start trying a few of the roms here on the GS4 side?

The most recent recovery I have experience with on the GS3 was Philz 6.

Take it easy on me fellas, I have NOT been staying up to date with all of the how to and what seems to be the latest and greatest, but I sure could use some help..... I did use root checker and confirmed root, so if someone could point me to the best recovery and best method of flashing that recovery, I would really appreciate it.

Respectfully,

Will this wipe the device?

Odin-ing the firmware will wipe the device.
Odin-ing cf-autoroot will not.
Thanks, so if I follow this below using the links he posted, I'll be using cf-autoroot and be ok then?

Yes, just follow the video from the first post, but use the cf-autoroot file he linked.

Edit: Rooting your phone will trip knox and probably void your warranty, if you have one.
Knox is mainly a security measure for businesses, and does not affect personnel users, except for the voided warranty.

Looking into an updated method for NG2

Did you have any luck with this?
I have the same problem, cannot get root now that phone took the NG2 update.
Been searching for a solution, Some people claim to be able to root the NG2, but the trail always seems runs dry before I figure out what/how to do it.

Follow the above post, read the Edit. But you can use @ qbking77 video just don't use his links, use the links in above post for cf auto root.

Make sure in Settings> More> you should see Developer Option, go into that and USB Debugging is checked. Make sure your drivers install when you hook up your phone to pc before you use Odin. If you have Kies on pc uninstall it. Make sure to Run as Administrator with Odin. Sorry not trying to make you seem like a noobie, just trying to make sure things go right for you.

Thanks for taking the time to explain. I was missing the Debugging step, however, when I did look at the debugging option, it was already checked marked, so who knows?

I had already found and used the file in the above post you mentioned. I tried several times, each time, it said it was successful, but it never actually installed the SuperSU app. I already had root checker, and it was saying my device was not rooted. So I just decided to download the SuperSU app from the play store and install it manually. After I did that, I gave root checker root permissions, and finally root checker reported my phone as rooted.

It worked for me, I was on NG5 at the time, on OA3 now.
Post #424 has a link for the newest cf-autoroot file, from the source.
You can always odin the latest TWRP recovery and then flash the latest SuperSU zip file.
And if you have any problems you can download the stock firmware from sammobile, and odin back to stock.

You can not boot the stock ROM before going into TWRP.
You have to go straight to TWRP after odin, or the stock ROM will replace TWRP with the stock recovery.

Edit: Once you have booted into TWRP and flashed SuperSu, then you can boot ROM.
