Error: couldn't create User.

Hi all!

I'm trying to create a restricted access user account for my 3-year-old.

Just installed Terminal Emulator and typed in "su", then "pm create-user NAME_OF_USER", but I haven't been able to go any further as I got stuck after "Error: couldn't create user". I surely must have missed something, but then what ...?

I rooted the GN with Nexus Root Toolkit under Windows 7 64bits and flashed the CM 10.1 with TWRP if that's of any help to understand why I can't go any further ...

Well, CM10.1 is Android 4.2, so you shouldn't need this method to create a new user. Support is completely built in. As for how to set it up, I have no idea. I looked through the settings and couldn't find anything. Maybe Google or someone on these forums can help.

For tablets only, that is! And I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Well the method described here only works with 4.1 and the link I posted above has issues with supersu in 4.2 .
If its for a 3 year old I would say use some home launcher which can hide apps... And just hide all app like settings, bank app call text, and so on so he/she can only open the app you want him/her to have access to

Technically, the steps in the OP work on 4.1, 4.1.1, and 4.1.2. I haven't tried 4.2 on any of my devices, because it isn't stable yet.

The steps should technically work though, unless the commands changed in 4.2. I have no idea honestly.
It doesn't works for me. Also doesn't works user management app in 4.2!

Then that means the commands are different. Or taken out completely, as they were probably only meant for testing purposes anyways.

I'm sure there is a way, I just don't know yet.
Yes commands may be changed by Google when adding the option natively to aosp tablets. Phones are not supported.

The reason you cant create a new user, and I'm having the same issue, is that currently CM 10.1 only supports one user. You can check this by typing in Terminal Emulator: pm get-max-users. still working on a way to change the number of max users.

If you find a way to add more in 4.2.x please post it here! I'd love to know myself.

I click on the Terminal Emulator, then type su, then pm create-user Guest
Then it comes up saying Error, Couldn't create user.

What do I do?

Are you on Android 4.1? If not, then this won't work.
