2. run crackin.bat

3. even if you end up with the cr--rw---- download and install modaco visionairy apk

4. temproot phone.

5. in cmd, type adb shell, then ''su'' and accept super user permissions on phone
You should see a # <this means you have the permissions.

6. in cmd, type: /data/local/flash_image misc /data/local/misc1-2.img

7. run the RUU again. it should work now.

Dude, I've tried it all.... I ran it under recovery, charge only (debugging on of course). And one f***** big nothing ;( I tried different ways to create a Goldcard and It says it's been succseful but still can't tell. I downloaded any adb drivers for legend, updated existing ones. I did termroot and run cmd but still nothing - I can't get specified line ;/ Besides, when I reboot legend in recovery mode, console says (after adb devices) 'device offline'. I tried to found out a solution but - sadly, I haven't. So I gave up. I think that in few days I'll try this whole procedure again, because i really want to have CM7. It's very sad that we ain't got one click method to root (downgrade if its necessary and perm root).

oh ! do u think it would work with windows7 32bit cas ive been trying on 64bit for several hours and i cannot for the life of me get this thing to downgrade, its very stressful !!

Where have you stuck? i dont know the deal with 64bits cause ive been using 32 so far and i got my trouble anyway... i couldn't get the line crw........ so i tried it under xp and it worked great. if you feel like it's not gonna get you anything under 64, try it on 32. u have nothing to lose

How I rooted a friend's 2.2 Stock Legend

I was trying this for 4 whole days with no luck.

The Legend was running the stock 2.2 (Asia) firmware - s/w v3.15.720.3. Tried numerous methods to downgrade to s/w v1.31 and went through almost all the errors people have posted here. 4 days of errors!

I'm using a Windows 7 machine with the latest HTC Sync 3.x (as 2.0.3.3 did NOT install). I don't think it matters much. Just make sure adb drivers are in place (hint: look for this program called PDAnet).

I found that it is really easy to make mistakes when making the goldcard.
The easiest way to create the goldcard is through this tool:

After making the goldcard, I followed this step by step, from section III:

Worked like a charm. I'm successfully running CM7 now!

This happened to me as well. What I did was finish the RUU installer, unplug the usb cable, replug the usb cable, then restart the RUU installer. --> Installation success.

I can confirm what Duffcase said.
I always needed to launch the RUU.exe twice. I did not unplug the USB though. So when the timeout messages shows up, just close the application and re-launch without touching the phone. It will stay with the black screen and exclamation mark. Second round, the application will find the bootloader.
Make also sure that you made your goldcard while the card was in the phone not in the computer. Might have an influence too and I also noticed if one goldcard did not work, try to buy another same size.....

However, I was having some issues myself. I was using the wrong directory for adb. It got messed up when I was moving the files between my downloads folder and installing the Andorid SDK. Check that. It worked for me when i copied the files from hack4legend-v5.zip into my C:\Program Files (x86)\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools folder. And then Temprooted, su'd and run those commands. Good luck. Check the sdk version!

Guys Im trying to root my GF's legend, I've tried a couple of times to make a goldcard and each time the RUU installer fails after selecting the 1.31 update.

Its is Hboot 1.01 and 2.2 froyo.

Does this mean there is an error with my goldcard? How do I know if my goldcard is working properly - can I check somehow? Cheers

Why do people fail to read the instructions? You cannot root while using the Froyo ROM. You must downgrade to EClair before rooting! This is a requirement!

Sorry but ive spent hours reading here on xda and modaco. Im trying to downgrade to 1.31. Can I not downgrade from 2.2 to 1.31?

If not can I downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1? Then to 1.31. Have googled this for legend but nothing comes up.

Once downgraded I'll then try to root obviously. Maybe above I should have typed downgrade instead of root, although I am trying to root eventually!

1.31 is a RUU version, not an Android build.

Make sure you are using a regular SD card (2GB) and not SDHC. This will give you a better chance of having a goldcard that works.

ive managed to downgrade build using visionaryplus.apk temproot method over on modaco, am off to root now. Thanks for replying

EDIT: have now rooted using the unlockr guide linked from xda and installed cm7.1.0 and gapps... cheers
